The Ernst Mach Scholarship to Study at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences is offered by the OeAD, which offers scholarships to students and researchers from all over the world. Our programs range from scholarships aimed at broad target groups to more specific ones aimed at applicants from particular fields of study or regions.
THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON THREE SUB-PROGRAMS OPEN FOR APPLICATION WORLDWIDE:
The Ernst Mach Scholarships, as well as the Franz Werfel and Richard Plaschka Scholarship, allow students and researchers from universities outside of Austria to undertake research or study programs at the foreigner at an Austrian university or research institution.
These programs are funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research (BMBWF).ERNST MACH SCHOLARSHIP – WORLDWIDE.
The Ernst Mach Grant worldwide is open to applications from these target groups:
- Ph.D. students are currently enrolled at a university outside of Austria
- Postgraduates and postdocs with a degree from a university outside of Austria who wish to advance their career scientific
- Postdoctoral professors are currently employed at a university outside of Austria.
ERNST MACH SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY AT AUSTRIAN UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES (FACHHOCHSCHULE)
- This scholarship is open to students who are participating in or have successfully completed a master’s program at a university outside of Europe.
- Have completed at least four semesters of study within a degree or diploma program.

FRANZ WERFEL SCHOLARSHIP
Franz Werfel, who was born in Prague in 1890 and died in California in 1945, is one of the most famous representatives of Austrian literature. Therefore, the Franz Werfel Scholarship is aimed at young university professors with a research focus on Austrian literature.
Werfel Fellows can work as visiting researchers in university departments and conduct research in libraries, archives, or research institutions.
Fellows can apply for the follow-up program once they have completed the twelve months of their fellowship.
Target group: Postgraduates Postdocs Researchers
Field of study: German language and literature, focusing on Austrian literature
Duration: 4 to 9 months, can be extended to 18 months
Grant amount: € 1,150 / month, Postdocs: mobility grant € 600 / month

RICHARD PLASCHKA SCHOLARSHIP
Austrian historian Richard Plaschka (1925-2001) was a university professor of Eastern European history at the University of Vienna (1967-1993), a rector of the university in 1981/1982, and director of the Austrian Institute for Eastern Europe and Southeast from 1958 to 1988.
The Richard Plaschka Fellowship is aimed at researchers in Austrian history.
Plaschka Fellows can work as visiting researchers in university departments and conduct research in libraries, archives, or research institutions.
Fellows can apply for the follow-up program once they have completed the twelve months of their fellowship.

Field of study: Historical disciplines, Austrian approach
Duration: History 4 to 12 months, can be extended to 18 months
