At least two prizes, each worth up to $1,000, are available each year through the Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship.  The number of awards that are given out and the sums of those awards actually depend on the caliber of the proposals that are submitted as well as the resources that are available throughout the fiscal year in which monies are recommended to be spent.

It is possible to ask for financial assistance for tuition or for additional educational costs, such as doing research or writing a dissertation, in proposals.  Expenses for yourself, your family, or your schooling will also be taken into consideration.  In addition, proposals that ask for financial assistance to attend professional conferences will be taken into consideration.

About the Scholarship Provider:

The Michigan State Institution is a public university that can be found in East Lansing and was founded in 1855. The Morrill Act was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862, making Michigan State University the first and most prestigious land-grant university in the United States. MSU also served as the model for the whole land-grant system. After beginning its history as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, Michigan State University (MSU) went through a series of rebrandings until finally adopting its current name, Michigan State University, in 1964. (MSU). Over the past 165 years, Michigan State University, a venerable institution with a global reputation, has worked to raise the bar for academic excellence in both research and instruction. The World University Ranking 2022 edition published by Times Higher Education (THE) placed Michigan State University in the 93rd spot overall. The QS World University Ranking 2023 placed Michigan State University in 159th place among universities worldwide.
