All freelance Journalist are now invited to apply for the $10,000 James W. Foley Middle East Fellowship. This fellowship is intended to continue the reporting in the Middle East in memory of Jim and to be extended for the next five years.
Yearly the GroundTruth Project support a freelance journalist who is looking for a report story covered by the media in the Middle East. Aside from the 10,000$ US Dollar grant, the journalist will also receive a benefits budget including the risk assessments, first aid training, medical insurance antagonistic environment, and expenses is related to a field reporting.
Five years ago the GroundTruth’s Middle East reporting started in Honor of Anthony Shadid who covered the 2011 Middle East reporting. Jim Foley was killed 2014 in Syria, and they honored to named the fellowship after him. Jim wrote about how people in Syria fight and go on with their lives even despite battling with war.
This year, they encourage all applicants to write or send a proposal in related stories about health issues, arts, educations, culture, faith, food, and other life expressions in a region. Last two years they only focus on Audio reporting and this year it will take part about writing.
The Successful applicant will be mentored and supported by the editorial team at the GroundTruth. The freelance writer must have at least 1 to 5 years of writing. All nationalities are qualified to apply, but please be reminded that you have to be familiar with the Middle East cultures and all report should be demonstrated in the English language.
