Do you need funding to master education? The University of London, SOAS, and the Japan Research Center (JRC) offer the JRC Fuwaku Scholarship 2023 for eligible students in Japanese studies. The scholarships are open to applicants from the UK/EU and abroad.
A Degree is a degree awarded by universities or other educational institutions. To obtain a Degree you must complete the necessary courses that can last from three to seven years, depending on your specific institution.

SOAS University of London was founded in 1916 and is a public research university based in London, England. It offers approximately 350 undergraduate degree combinations, and more than 100 master’s and doctoral degrees each year. Programs in almost all departments.
Scholarship Worth
Scholarships: Scholarships of up to £10,000 will be awarded. There are also two scholarships available for students.
JRC Fuwaku scholarship eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, the candidate must meet the following admission criteria:
- The scholarships are open to UK/EU and Overseas applicants.
- Scholarships are available for MPhil/Ph.D. Applicants, the research proposal must focus on Japan. Applicants must provide evidence of this in the research proposal of their application for admission.
- Applicants who enroll in the postgraduate master’s program are required to write their dissertation on a Japan-related topic. Applicants must provide evidence of this in their application for admission statements. For the current postgraduate course, a master’s degree you must provide evidence of this in your scholarship application.
- Master’s-taught graduate applicants must take a minimum of 1.0 units (or equivalent, eg 2x 0.5 units) in Japan/Japanese studies. (New) applicants must provide evidence of this in their scholarship application.
- Applicants must include details of their Japanese language skills in the scholarship application. While the Japanese language is not essential, it is desirable, so it would be helpful for applicants’ referees to comment on their Japanese skills in the areas of reading, composition, and speaking, if applicable.
- Candidates must have an offer of admission to the 2a degree program at SOAS before the scholarship deadline.
- Applicants must meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS University of London.

Scholarships are available for Ph.D. or Master’s programs in Japanese Studies.

- Step 2: Applicants must download and submit the application form.

The applicant must present the supporting documents to apply for the scholarships:
- The applicant must submit their two references.
- A CV should cover formal education and employment history with start and end dates clearly displayed.
- A personal statement and a research proposal.
