Auckland University of Technology in partnership with the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust offers a scholarship for international students who wish to pursue their Ph.D. degree in New Zealand for the academic year 2023-2024. The Nicholas Tarling Memorial PhD Scholarship funded by the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust wants to provide financial funds to both local and international students who wish to undertake a doctoral degree related to the topic which focuses on the study of Southeast Asia and its people including the following countries:

The scholarship was established to honor the memory of Emeritus Professor Nicholas Tarling, one of the greatest professors in the History of Southeast Asia, he researched and published thoroughly about the history and the culture of Southeast Asia. The scholarship is intended for students in eligible countries to be admitted to a doctoral degree at the Auckland Univesity of Technology. The scholarship will be providing financial assistance to the outstanding students amounting to up to $10,000 that can be used for their educational-related expenses.

Scholarship Eligibility 

To begin with the application, the students must meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship.

  • The applicants must have good communication skills in oral and written English.
  • Have good academic backgrounds and can demonstrate high-quality research.
  • All citizens of New Zealand, permanent residents, and international students are encouraged to apply.
  • The applicants must meet the admission criteria of the Auckland University of Technology and have received an offer to study at an eligible Ph.D. degree program at the university.
  • Past beneficiaries might apply again in the resulting years. The candidate’s proposed field of study should be one where the College can offer management. Application Procedure 

Candidates should finish The Nicholas Tarling Memorial Ph.D. Scholarship application is online and is accessible from the official website of the provider. The selection panel will be comprised of two delegates from AUT and one representative of the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust. Assuming that no reasonable applicants apply, the scholarship will be held for the next year. The decision for the scholarship awards will be final.

The applicants will be notified of the result of the application by the Univesity Scholarship Office once the decision was done.

Scholarship Awards

The successful students will be awarded an amount of $10,000 that can be used towards their educational related fees. The successful students must read and agree to the terms and conditions applied to the scholarship and shall remain admitted to a full-time Ph.D. degree during the scholarship year.

The deadline to complete and submit the application is from December 1 to January 15, 2023.
