The Siemens Foundation is excited to announce that Discovery Education is hosting the Siemens competition for high school students in the United States. This competition is open to high school students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
The competition aims to foster your scientific interests and allows you to engage with college-level projects. As part of the contest, the first-place winner will receive a prize of up to $100,000, the second-place winner will receive $50,000, and all other finalists will have a chance to receive $25,000.
Known as the nation’s premier scientific research competition for high school students, the Siemens Competition for Mathematics and Science aims to promote excellence by encouraging students to embark on individual or team research endeavors.

The Siemens competition targets high school students aspiring to pursue undergraduate studies at universities.
Host Nationality
The Siemens Contest for High School Students will take place in the United States. If you are an international student interested in studying in the United States, we recommend exploring the top scholarships available for studying in the United States of America.

Scholarship Benefits
The Siemens Competition for High School Students offers remarkable advantages, including the opportunity to win cash prizes ranging from approximately $1,000 to $100.
Finalists in the competition are eligible for the following prizes: First Place: $100,000; Second Place: $50,000; and all other finalists: $25,000. The scholarship funds can be utilized for the following purposes:
1. Tuition and mandatory fees for enrollment: Covers the cost of tuition, fees, and required expenses related to enrolling in educational programs.
2. Educational resources: Covers the expenses of textbooks, supplies, equipment, and research materials necessary for completing coursework and projects.
3. Campus accommodations: Assists with the costs associated with room and board while staying on campus.
These benefits aim to support the educational journey of the winners and provide financial assistance for their academic pursuits.

Eligibility for Siemens Competition 2023
To be eligible for the Siemens Science Fair, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
1. Citizenship and Enrollment:
– The competition is open to high school students who are either US citizens or permanent residents (green card holders).
– Applicants must be enrolled in and attending one of the following during the school year:
– High school (grades 9-12) in the US, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Wake, Midway Islands, and the Marianas.
– A foreign school as an exchange student, or if their parent or guardian resides and works abroad.
– Signatures from the home school must be obtained through the respective school district responsible for such programs. If a state does not require district supervision, the parent or guardian responsible for homeschooling must sign the appropriate forms.
2. Grade-Level Requirements:
– Students must be enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) during the school year.
– For individual projects, students must be in good standing, registered, and in their final year of high school (grade 12). All high school courses required for college admission must be completed by September 1.
– Team projects can have two or three members and do not necessarily require a senior student (grades 11-12).
– All team members must be in good standing, registered, and attending high school (grades 9-12). However, team members may be from different schools.
3. Team Structure and Communication:
– Each team must appoint a team leader who will serve as the main point of contact between the Siemens Competition and other team members.
– All team members must actively participate in the design, execution, and presentation of the research study submitted to the Siemens Competition, making significant contributions to the effort.
– If there are any changes to the team composition before or after registration, the students must specify the nature of the change and ensure that all team members consent to it in the Acknowledgments section of their Project form in the Student Dashboard.
– Teams must list all former and current partners on the Project form, regardless of whether they were part of the final team.
– Once the registration deadline has passed, modifications to the team structure (additions or removals) cannot be made without written approval from the Siemens Competition Team, which must be requested in writing due to exceptional circumstances.
4. Conflicts of Interest:
– Contest participants who have parents, guardians, or advisors employed by or affiliated with Siemens Foundation University Partners may enter the competition. However, they may not compete at the partner school where their parent, guardian, mentor, or teacher is employed or affiliated.
– If the research work for a project is conducted at any of these partner schools, students may enter the Competition but will not be eligible to compete in college.
– Students must disclose any such conflicts of interest within their student profile during enrollment. Failure to disclose conflicts may result in disqualification.
Backup Documents
The complete set of required materials includes:
1. Research Report: This should consist of an Abstract and References section.
2. Executive Summary: A concise summary of the research project.
3. Mentor Form: A form completed by the mentor providing guidance and support throughout the project.
4. Parental/Guardian Authorization: Written consent from the parent or guardian allowing the student’s participation in the competition.
5. School Endorsement: Endorsement or approval from the student’s school or educational institution.
6. Student Affirmation Record: A document that confirms the student has read and evaluated the guidelines and requirements.
7. Questions about Human and Animal Protection Policy: Responses to specific questions regarding the policies related to the protection of human and animal subjects in research.
8. Laboratory Director/Research Group Director Information (if applicable): Information about the director of the laboratory or research group involved in the project (if applicable).
