Scholarship details
The University of Guyana has helped put together a scholarship called the ‘Scholarship for Advanced Guyanese Education (SAGE)’ which was instated to help Guyanese students find a higher education system that would propel their career toward Math and English subjects.
The traditional cost of higher education or a full year of college tuition in Guyana rounds out to about $228,448 GY which is converted to USD as $1,098.

Eligibility
- Anyone that wishes to apply for this scholarship must be Guyanese.
- All individuals that can apply for this scholarship will need to be able to provide proof that they need financial assistance.
- Applicants must be considered first-time applicants as well as undergraduate students. Students that are working on their Master’s or Ph.D. are not eligible.
- All students who apply must show that they have attained five passes at CXC with grades 1 and 2 inclusive of both Math and English.
- Students must successfully complete their secondary education before applying. This means students right out of high school that has graduated from their last year.
- Academic merit does not play a part in the selection process for this scholarship.
- Students must apply to study on campus and attend classrooms, this is not a long distance learning scholarship.
Requirements
The number one requirement is that students must be Guyanese when they apply. This is a scholarship for students that need financial assistance and the applications will be monitored on who needs more funding assistance than most.
How to Apply
The best way to apply is by being a first time student at the University of Guyana as well as working towards an undergraduate degree.
Only 10 students are shortlisted for this scholarship opportunity. Which this final 10 students will be judged based on the essay completion and qualifications that are deemed a ‘good fit’ for this scholarship.

There is no need for a student visa here since this scholarship is solely for Guyanese students only. Foreign students are not permitted access to this funding option.
Reward – Extra Benefits
The reward benefit from this scholarship is that any lucky recipient winner will receive a full year of paid or covered tuition cost at no expense to them. This is paid off by the university.
Awardees can receive additional funding towards paying college books and accommodation.

Academic deadlines show that the date of October 10, 2022 is the last day to send in applications to be admitted to the university.

Open submission time lines show that around March 2023 is when the application submission date allows students to send in their application packets.
Annual or Renewable Scholarship Options
This is an annual scholarship that lasts for the duration of a full academic year. Students will need to follow guidelines to ensure that they are doing the right thing as keeping grade levels high and being a full-time student to keep the scholarship. This is not a renewable scholarship since this scholarship has duration time of the whole 4 years needed to reach a degree in English and Math. Afterwards if students ensure to pursue more schooling a different scholarship will need to be looked for.
