Eligibility
The scholarship offers +3 and 3+1 Studentships, which means students can apply for either 3 years of fundings or 4 years of funding depending on their academic backgrounds or the eligibility for this funding below:
+3 Studentship Eligibility
- The +3 fundings will be open to applicants who hold a graduate degree or MA degree in Law.
- Must provide training research that covers 75% or higher on the ESCR Social Science requirements.
- Must be able to submit an area of research proposals.
- Can demonstrate their academic excellence.

Area of research
Students are required to submit a research topic regarding the proposal of the application that outlines behavioral science and broad social, all in all, the research topic must be relevant to the scholarship course degree and research.
3+1 Studentship Eligibility
The students that are not eligible for the +3 studentship can apply for the remaining slots of this funding. These funding awards will grant the deserving students 4 years of funding support. To be eligible you must meet the following:
- Students must complete the postgraduate degree before taking the doctoral degree.
- Must be able to submit a research proposal related to the area of law.
- Must be in the first-class level or 2nd to the highest.
- Can demonstrate their academic excellence.
Important Note
- Unlike all other applications in the Faculty of Law research program, which indicate that applicants are not required to contact any of the university staff members prior to submitting their application form, the LISS-DTP scholarship program requires the students to communicate with an academic member of staff during the application. This is because the application must be accompanied by a declaration form from the supervisory authority, which is filled out by the proposed supervisory authority, keep in mind that the application will not be accepted without the needed form.
- The students must first identify any of the academic staff members that have relevant experience in their proposed field of study.
Application Process
Students can access the online portal for applications provided by the university. All application forms must be completed to be considered. Supporting documents are required along with the application, listed below:

Applicants must provide a copy of their most recent academic degree. This should contain both a transcript with details of your grades (specifical grades for each part of the dissertation worked on) and a copy of the certificate of overall grades. If you already have a law degree, please attach a copy of your transcript of records from that degree confirming the overall grade. For degrees earned in non-English speaking countries, students must submit a transcript translated into English by a certified translator.
English Language requirements
The students must submit any of the following test scores that can prove that they have good communication skills in the English language written and oral.
- IELTS score of 7.0
- PTE of 68
- C1- 185
- C2- 185
- Trinity ISE – III
There is an alternative way to meet the English requirements of the university, the students who already have a master’s degree in an English-speaking country can use this to meet the requirements or equivalent to the English language requirements. The admission department may consider this type of applciation on case to case basis only.
Scholarship Awards
The Queen Mary University of London will be providing a £17,000 annual stipend and a full tuition fee waiver annually to deserving local and international students.
When the university reviews your application and supporting documentation, and if they are interested in overseeing your doctoral degree, the final stage of the process is an interview to discuss the student’s proposed research and other details related to the application. Therefore, you should be available for an interview if requested. University will be conducting telephone interviews for foreign or UK applicants currently living or studying abroad. Training offers are only made after a successful interview.
As the university receives a large number of applications, Queen Mary University of London is unable to provide individual feedback on failed applications.
Application Deadline
All application forms and documents must be submitted on January 28, 2022, Friday at 5 PM. The scholarship will be offered annually. The scholarship award is only available to the students who will be commencing their Ph.D. degree in Law in September 2022.
