The LLM: The Saudi Centre for Commercial Arbitration & Arabic Moot: A Full Scholarship for Saudi Law Students and Graduates

Are you a Saudi law student or a recent graduate who wants to pursue a master’s degree in law (LLM) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the UK? Do you have a strong academic record and a keen interest in international commercial dispute resolution? Do you have experience in participating in the SCCA Arabic Moot, a global arbitration competition in Arabic? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might be eligible for the LLM: The Saudi Centre for Commercial Arbitration & Arabic Moot scholarship.

The LLM: The Saudi Centre for Commercial Arbitration & Arabic Moot scholarship is a generous award that UEA Law School offers every year to one well qualified applicant who is participating (or who has in the last two years) in the SCCA Arabic Moot and who applies to complete the LLM in International Commercial Dispute Resolution. The scholarship covers the full tuition fees for the LLM course, which is worth £17,600. The scholarship is in recognition of the developing relationship between UEA Law School and the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), which aims to foster academic collaboration and exchange between the two institutions.

The SCCA is a not-for-profit organization established by a Saudi ministerial council decision in 2014. It is dedicated to providing professional, transparent, and efficient alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services, such as arbitration and mediation, in accordance with Sharia values and international standards. The SCCA also organizes training and events to promote ADR awareness and education in the region.

The SCCA Arabic Moot is a global arbitration competition in Arabic, where students from law and Sharia colleges from around the world come together to compete in hypothetical arbitration cases that simulate real-world international commercial arbitration cases. In the SCCA Arabic Moot, each competing team will take a turn playing the roles of both the claimant and the respondent by submitting written briefs and presenting oral arguments in a hypothetical arbitration case before top international arbitrators. The competition reinforces the practical dimension of the academic knowledge that students receive in their university studies.

The LLM in International Commercial Dispute Resolution is a one-year course that provides students with advanced knowledge and skills in their chosen area of law, as well as to enhance their critical thinking, research, and communication abilities. The course covers a wide range of subjects, such as international commercial arbitration, international investment arbitration, international commercial litigation, international commercial mediation, and comparative law. The course also offers students the opportunity to write a dissertation on a topic of their choice under the supervision of an expert academic.

The scholarship is intended to encourage and reward students who have demonstrated exceptional academic potential and commitment in their previous studies at UNILAG Law School, as well as to support them in their studies and living expenses in the UK. The scholarship also aims to foster goodwill and understanding between UEA and SCCA, as well as to enhance the reputation and influence of UEA Law School as a leading institution in legal education and research.

The scholarship is open to applicants who meet the following criteria:

• They have a confirmed place to study at UEA Law School in the LLM in International Commercial Dispute Resolution.

• They have graduated from UNILAG Law School with a minimum of Second Class Upper Division or equivalent.

• They are international students paying overseas fees.

• They are not receiving any other bursary or scholarship from UEA or another organisation.

• They are participating (or have participated in the last two years) in the SCCA Arabic Moot.

To apply for the scholarship, applicants do not need to submit a separate application form. They will be automatically considered for the scholarship once they have received their results from UNILAG Law School and have confirmed their place at UEA Law School. The scholarship will be issued as a tuition fee discount and will be reflected on their invoice.

The LLM: The Saudi Centre for Commercial Arbitration & Arabic Moot scholarship is a valuable opportunity for Saudi law students and graduates who want to study at UEA Law School and benefit from its excellent teaching and research in law. The scholarship not only covers the full tuition fees, but also provides access to the facilities and resources of UEA Law School, as well as opportunities to network and participate in events and activities. The scholarship also contributes to strengthening the ties between UEA and SCCA, as well as promoting the role and reputation of UEA Law School as a global institution.
