In Micronesia, there is a work-study program that allows students to be able to work and earn a living while they study and pay off their tuition. In this case, students will be gifted $2,000 as long as they follow the guidelines and instructions that are listed on the original website page.
Since SEG work-study programs at limited, only eligible students that fit all of the criteria are deemed good candidates.
Programs available at the College of Micronesia – FSM includes these subjects:
- Bookkeeping
- Business & Administration
- Languages
- Literature
- Social Science

Eligibility
- Eligible aspects include that the student has a grade point average that is a minimum of 2.5.
- Students must only be on one work-study program at a time. They cannot be on 2 or more.
- The students interested must have completed and sent in all financial aid packages or required documents.
- Students must be enrolled in regular classes and not a specific preparatory program.
- Must be a full-time student.
- The student will need to show proof that they are in good financial aid status.
- Another aspect is that the student will need to submit a completed pre-application for work-study.
Requirements
All potential recipients who do end up winning this option, will need to follow these rules:
- Students have to apply to participate in the Program and are responsible to ensure that they do not work more than 20 hours per week or more than 40 hours biweekly.
- When a student earned his work-study award, and has completed the work-study for the given semester and must apply again for the next semester.
Students do need to enroll to become an actual full-time student before sending in inquires to the email address provided in the contact section. From there students who successfully send in and complete their financial aid packet before the deadline date, will be able to participate in this work-study program. However, students will need to inquire about entering the program.
How to Apply
Students do have to apply to participate in the SEG program. This can be done by financial aid staff at their campuses on how and when to apply for SEG Work-Study.
This opportunity allows students to earn and work while the study for their degree.
Reward – Extra Benefits
SEG payments are made at the beginning of each semester, this means the $2,000 will be split into $1,000 for two semesters.
The total award amount is $2,000 USD. Or at least half of a single year tuition cost. Every year differs from the next when it comes to funding, however, this is the estimate value for 2023. This can change to a higher or lower estimated value.
Deadline Time Line
The deadline time line follows the same time frame as the application processing window for admissions. That means that each student should look towards the actual deadline and open window date for when the university is accepting admissions applications for students to apply to study there.
Deadlines are met to the same capacity as admissions. However, a student must first become enrolled at the College of Micronesia – FSM.
Open Submission Window Time Frame
The open submission window time frame follows the same time frame as the application processing window for admissions. That means that each student should look towards the actual deadline and open window date for when the university is accepting admissions applications for students to apply to study there.
Student Visa
If the student is an international student not from the country, then they will need to plan and inquire for a student visa before arriving. This is the best way to have a student visa as some countries do require students to have their student visa on them once they arrive at the student destination.
Annual or Renewable Scholarship Option
This is an annual scholarship that lasts for the given time frame or how long the research project needs to be conducted. This is not a renewable scholarship research option. Since there is no say in how this can be renewed, it is suggested that students offer to apply for a different work-study program for there following year.
