Scholarship details
The University of Amsterdam was officially established in 1632 making it one of the oldest and well known higher education institutions in the world. Let alone the University of Amsterdam attracts art majors each year whether those students start off their college career there or eventually end up transferring to one of their art departments; it is here in Amsterdam where some of the globe’s acknowledged artists are recognized.
However, for this particular scholarship opportunity, we will look at what Humanities students can do so they are eligible for this scholarship.
A student that is awarded the honor of studying at the University of Amsterdam will receive possibly the best opportunities to excel in their college career. The university happens to be in connection with many museums, science laboratories, work-study programs, and more.
Applicants can apply for another scholarship that is not from the University of Amsterdam, however, if the student is awarded and has not mentioned it, they should contact the school of admissions to change that aspect of their scholarship application.
Eligibility
- Only Non-EU students or international students are permitted to apply
- Applicants must have also applied for admission to the University of Amsterdam and have received their acceptance letter
- The applicant must come from a non-privileged background, this means either low-income or below the poverty income line
- The applicant must have applied for a Master’s Humanities Degree program
- The student applying must not have received another scholarship funding opportunity while they are awaiting the resolution of this one
- Students that are majoring in these specific classes are not eligible: Art and Performance Research Studies, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, Curating Art and Cultures, Heritage and Memory Studies, International Dramaturgy, Latin American Studies, Museum Studies, and the Dutch-taught programs
Requirements
There is multiple majors merit scholarships available, for example, any student that is taking one of these programs may apply:
- Child Development and Education
- Communication
- Science
- Economics and Business
- Humanities
- Law
- Medicine
- Psychology
- Science
- Social Sciences
We will focus on Humanities to see what the necessary requirements are:
One of the biggest requirements involves passing the English Proficiency Exam, which centers around a student understanding the English language enough to pass their program classes while studying at the university. However, if a student has a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Dutch university they are exempt from this because they would have already taken their English Proficiency Exam.
How to Apply
When applying students will need to start with their application for a Master’s program that does not fall into one of the exempt categories mentioned in the eligibility section.
Afterwards, students will be able to find a section called the “MyInfo application form” which is the application form that needs to be filled out.
The application form will need to be downloaded so it can be filled out through Adobe or any program that has a PDF format.
From there applicants will need to submit a motivation letter, grade point average, as well as their Bachelor’s degree diploma.
After everything has been filled out completely (there should be no blanks left, if there are this means the scholarship application form is incomplete) and will submit the form via Qualtrics.
Students also have to be certain to save their application exactly like this: Firstname_Surname_UvAnetID_Scholarship_Application.
