The University of Alabama in the USA offers an annual scholarship for international qualifying students, the scholarships offered by the university are a generous opportunity for talented international students who can demonstrate their academic merits.
For the academic year of 2022-2023, Automatic Merit Scholarships for International Freshman Students will be offered with a scholarship value of up to $28,000 intended for the undergraduate students in all field areas offered by the university. To provide assistance and support to the international student’s higher education, the scholarship also encourages the students to join the scholarship to be able to reach their higher potential and future professions and achievemens.
The international students who are interested to apply for the scholarship are required to meet the GPA requirements for the scholarship.

Eligibility
Interested applicants must meet the following eligibility and merit criteria:
- Applicants must be qualified as international students.
- Must be admitted to an undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama.
- Must be able to demonstrate their academic merit and meet the required GPA of each scholarship category offered.
- Must have good communication skills in oral and written English.
Eligible Merit Criteria and Scholarship Amount
- Presidential Scholarship- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $28,000.
- UA Scholar- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $24,000.
- Foundation in Excellence- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $15,000.
- Foundation in Excellence II- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $15,000.
- Collegiate Scholarship- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $10,000.
- Capstone- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $8,000.
- Capstone II- The students must have a GPA of 3.00 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $8,000.
- Crimson Legends- The students must have a GPA of 3.50 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $6,000.
- Crimson II- The students must have a GPA of 3.00 and above and will be awarded a yearly value of $6,000.
Keep in mind that the applications for Freshmen and Transfer Scholarships are not required to be considered for the highly competitive scholarships offered by UA. Scholarships in these applications have certain criteria and not all students may qualify for the scholarships listed. In order to be considered for these scholarships, students must check the box next to the scholarship for which they wish to be considered and provide all required information. These scholarships are processed on a competitive basis, which means that not all students who meet the criteria can receive them.
Language Requirements
The students must meet and submit scores of the following:
- IELTS score of 6.0
- PTE score of 54 and above
- DUOLINGO score of 110 and above
- TOEFL iBT score of 79 and above

Application Note
The following are the few things to keep in mind before starting the scholarship application at the university portal:
- UA includes a scholarship application with the application for admission.
- Complete your application and have official transcripts sent by January 15th to be considered for competitive scholarships
- You will be prompted to create a login using the UA App for Undergraduate Students.
- No changes can be made after the request has been submitted. Registered applicants can check the status of their application online at any time.
- Applicants must have a valid email address to be registered at the portal. Secure information about the application will be sent to the registered email address. In case you lose your pin, username, or password, an email will be sent to your registered email address.
Eligible admitted students will automatically receive one of the scholarships. Notifications are sent approximately 2 weeks after receipt. Notices listed are for Fall and Summer 2023 semesters only, because many factors affect the competitive price for a student, it is not unusual for students accepted at an earlier date to receive a later notice. If you do not receive an early-round notification, your scholarship application will advance to the third round for further consideration. All Spring 2023 semester announcements will be released in mid-December.
Scholarship Award
The University of Alabama will be awarding the successful students with up to $28,000 depending on their academic merit. The scholarship amount can be used towards the student’s tuition fee for an undergraduate degree program at the university.
