The University of Victoria, in New Zealand, offers international students around 110 scholarships per year, to carry out doctoral studies, in various disciplines.

University of Victoria Scholarships
These are scholarships with a duration of about three (3) years. These scholarships will be available to support students with academic merits who seek to complete their doctorate at the University of Victoria, in the city of Wellington.
They will be offered to the best-ranked candidates for admission to the doctorate during the year. To be considered, then, the candidate must demonstrate very good academic experience and excellent references.
In addition, you must demonstrate high-quality research potential. Publications made in various scientific publications, together with experience and education, will also be taken into account.
Criteria for selection
Those who:
- Be international students, from anywhere in the world.
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree with honors or a master’s degree with a GPA of not less than 6, grade B+ or have proven evidence of training and ability.
- Have proven knowledge of English. The minimum requirements are a TOEFL exam of 90 points in the internet-based test, with a minimum of 20 in writing, or IELTS with a score of 6.5. Or a minimum of 2 out of 5s and two out of 4s on the Victoria University English Proficiency Test.
Or a Pearson exam, with a score of 58, and a communication value of no less than 50.
Some academic and personal skills are also recommended, such as:
- High interest in a substantial research project.
- Self-discipline.
- Persistence.
- Ability to respond effectively to advise and criticism.
- Ability to work independently.
- Desire to work within the tradition of the university.
- Stable financial and personal circumstances.
- As well as, a good ability to write.
Steps to apply for one of the scholarships to study in New Zealand
Admission to both the doctoral program and the scholarship are linked. You will be able to start the process on the platform established for them. The first thing the candidate will have to do is create a record of their account.
All the required documents must be uploaded on this platform so that everything can be sent to the University of Victoria.
The next step is to work on the research proposal. You will need to answer questions such as: What is the specific subject you are interested in studying?
Also, why do you think the topic you chose needs more research. Also, how you will decide to carry out the investigation, and what particular obstacles it could have.
Finally, you will answer about what, in your academic, professional, or personal life, prepares you to carry out doctoral research.
Another step is the search for suitable references. Two (2) of them must be presented in the application.
Other documents for scholarships
- An academic paper in English, 2,000 words.
- Also, certified copies of academic notes and certificates of bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
- Evidence of knowledge of English.
- Finally, translations of official documents, are certified by an accredited translator.
