The David Sainsbury Scholarships in Global Plant Health are prestigious scholarships that UEA offers every year to students who are enrolled in the MSc in Global Plant Health programme. The programme is delivered by The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL), a world-leading research institute that focuses on plant-microbe interactions and their applications for sustainable agriculture and global food security.
The programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the biological, ecological, and socio-economic aspects of plant health, as well as the skills and tools to address the current and future challenges of plant diseases and pests. The programme covers a wide range of topics, such as plant pathology, epidemiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, biosecurity, policy, and communication. The programme also offers students the opportunity to conduct a research project on a topic of their choice under the supervision of an expert academic.
The scholarships are equal to full international fees, which are £31,000 for the 2023/24 academic year. The scholarships will be awarded for one year of full-time study at UEA. The scholarships will be issued as a tuition fee discount and will be reflected on the invoice.
The scholarships are intended to encourage and reward students who have demonstrated exceptional academic potential and commitment in their previous studies, as well as to support them in their studies and living expenses in the UK. The scholarships also aim to foster goodwill and understanding between UEA and TSL, as well as to enhance the reputation and influence of UEA and TSL as leading institutions in plant health education and research.
The scholarships are open to applicants who meet the following criteria:
• They have a confirmed place to study at UEA in the MSc in Global Plant Health programme.
• They have graduated from a recognised institution with a minimum of Second Class Upper Division or equivalent.
• They are international students paying overseas fees.

They will be automatically considered for the scholarships once they have received an offer on the MSc in Global Plant Health programme by 30 April 2023. The applications will be judged on their academic merit.
