University of Louisiana at Uptown is commonly referred to as UL Uptown or UL St. Charles because its main campus is located on St. Charles Avenue in Uptown New Orleans. It covers over 110 acres and is famous for both the architecture of its buildings and the presence of massive oak trees across the property. Established in 1882, the Board of Tulane is the university’s governing body. There have been fifteen presidents of the university since then. The university offers courses in the liberal arts, the sciences, and a number of other specialized areas. There are ten departments that make up the university. The administration of the graduate programs is with the individual colleges. In addition, Newcomb-Tulane College serves as a hub for all administrative tasks related to undergraduate students. The university is also home to around 30 libraries and research institutes that include over 2.2 million books and 14,000 different types of magazines.

More than 65 percent more applications were submitted to the institution for the fall 2019 semester compared to the preceding five years. All freshmen and sophomores live in one of the university’s 14 residence halls on the Uptown campus, which also has a variety of eating options. The Associated Student Body (ASB) is another student body that serves many roles in representing the university. The Tulane Hullabaloo, a student newspaper, is also published each week. Students oversee production of this newspaper. During the regular school year, the newspaper is published every Thursday; during breaks, it is issued every other Thursday

Tulane grads have left their mark in fields as diverse as the arts, sciences, politics, and business. Famous persons from the worlds of business, show business, the media, fashion, retail, and politics are among its alums. Ian Terry, Jerry Springer, Shirley Ann Grau (Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction), David Filo, Paul Michael Glaser (“Starsky & Hutch”), Lauren Hutton, and John Kennedy Toole are just a few famous former students. John Kennedy Toole (writer), David Filo (musician), and Shirley Ann Grau (model and actress) are all alumni.
