Shoprite Group will award scholarships within the following fields of study:

  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA): 10 positions available for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students
  • Retail Business Management – ​​60 positions available for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Logistics/Supply Chain: 24 positions available for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honors students
  • Information Technology: 24 positions available for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honors students
  • BPHarm: 5 positions available for 1st-year students only).

What does the Shoprite scholarship cover?

The scholarship varies from R30,000 to R60,000, depending on the course of study and the institution. Your goal is to cover tuition fees, prescribed books, and an allowance for accommodation.

Please note that there is a mandatory make-up requirement: for each year that you are covered by the scholarship program, you will work at Shoprite for the same amount of time.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you do not receive feedback within 30 days, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Are there requirements for Shoprite scholarships for South African students?

Applicants must meet the following minimum income criteria before applying (please note that if you do not meet all the requirements, your application will not be considered):\

  • South African citizen
  • Currently, in Matric Y they have obtained a minimum average of 70% for the first semester OR
  • Currently studying in one of the fields of study mentioned above and obtained a minimum average of 60% for the first semester
  • Accounting  majors studying to earn a BCompt/Bachelor of Accounting, leading to CTA and qualifying for a Registered Articles program (1st year/2nd year/3rd year/Honors)
  • Computer Technologies students  studying for a Bachelor of Computer Science/Statistics/Mathematical Sciences/Data Science (1st year/2nd year/3rd year)
  • Logistics Majors –  Studying for a BComm in Logistics (Quantitative Management) / Bachelor of Operations Research or related qualification (1st year / 2nd year / 3rd year)
  • Retail / Hospitality Management Students:  National Diploma: Retail Trade or Equivalent (1st Year / 2nd Year / 3rd Year / B-Tech)
