Scholarship details
The honorable Wade Van Valkenburg was a Circuit Court judge in Kalamazoo for six years. He was concerned about the youth in this community, especially those who have had to overcome circumstances or obstacles that may otherwise hinder them from seeking training or higher education. This Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 through the Wade Van Valkenburg Trust to provide educational scholarships for students in Kalamazoo County.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Kalamazoo County resident who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a vocational, technical, or trade school or a two- or four-year college or university full or part-time.
- Must have, either through a plea bargain or conviction, been found guilty of a criminal offense and be able to document how he or she has overcome adversity and/or obstacles in his or her life.
- Must show financial need.
How to Apply
- Complete and submit one online scholarship application. We will match you to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation scholarship(s) that you are eligible for.
- If you are matched to this scholarship we will notify you, via email, that official documentation of the criminal conviction will be required.
- In addition, if you are matched to this scholarship we will notify you, via email, that one copy of the Scholarship Recommendation Form and Letter of Recommendation completed by someone verifying the obstacles and/or adversity the applicant has overcome will be required.
- An official cumulative high school or college transcript through the most recent term.
- This scholarship requires that you demonstrate financial need. Please complete the student section of the Financial Information Summary form and then forward the form to the college financial aid office where you have been accepted. They will complete the form and return it to our office.
- Complete and submit one online scholarship application. We will match you to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation scholarship(s) that you are eligible for.
