Scholarship details
The $5,000 Gordon Hay Scholarship Fund is a merit-based scholarship established in memory of Gordon Hay, an organizational development professional, who was passionate about transformational change through authentic engagement of people’s hearts and minds in the strategic work of business. He believed passion and fire from within fueled exceptional results.
Levels and areas of studies:
The student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a non-performance discipline of the performing arts (e.g. set/lighting/sound/costume design, stage-management, production or music direction, arts administration, arts education,etc.)
Who can participate?:
The student must be a graduating high school senior, college freshman, or college sophomore at the time of application.
•Student must be preparing to pursue or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a non-performance discipline of the performing arts (e.g. set/lighting/sound/costume design, stage-management, production or music direction, arts administration, arts education,etc.).
•High school seniors must reside in one of the following Charlotte-area counties: Alexander, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanley, Union, Chester (SC), Chesterfield (SC), Lancaster (SC), York(SC).
•College sophomores and freshmen must reside in North Carolina or South Carolina.
To draw from the award account, the recipient must submit a formal request to Blumenthal’s Education Department. It is possible for a recipient to utilize the entire award amount within the first year of college or to occasionally draw from the account as opportunities arise within a four-year undergraduate career. If the total amount of the award is not used during the undergraduate experience, the award recipient will not be entitled to a cash settlement upon graduation.
The endowment of the scholarship:
$5,000 in total to one individual awarded the scholarship
Institutions where the studies will be carried out:
North Carolina or South Carolina Universities or accredited colleges.
Instructions to apply:
1.) Application packets must contain a completed scholarship application form (typed responses only)
2.) .one-page essay detailing why the applicant is applying for the Gordon HayScholarship
3.) first-page copy of student’s 2019-2020 Student AidReport(SAR)*
4.) reference form and a recommendation letter from a current teacher or industry professional
5.) headshot (or close-up digital photo)for purpose of press release upon recipient selection
6.) copy of financial aid award letter(s)
7.) HS SENIORS ONLY: most recent high school transcript (photocopies; no camera shots)
8.) HS SENIORS ONLY: a copy of college acceptance letter(s
