To assist the outstanding students who can demonstrate their academic achievements and their academic history, the Algoma Univesity offers an International Scholarships for the academic year of 2022-2023.
The scholarships provided by the Algoma University are to increase the population of the international students who want to further their education in Canada and achieve their higher education and career goals.

International Scholarships
Entrance Scholarship
- International students considered for the next award must have a temporary residence visa on the first day of classes as a student class under the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- All students required to pay an international differential fee, including university transfers, second-degree students, graduates of diplomas, and transfer students at universities, are entitled to an entrance scholarship.
- International assistance is not delayed under certain circumstances. Students must agree to the admission requirements and scholarships received in the year the application is granted.
- US citizens are not eligible for these scholarships as they have already received significant tuition discounts.
$5,000 Chancellor’s Awards
The Chancellor’s Award with a total value of $5,000 is a renewable scholarship award intended for the international students entering their first year at Algoma University. To be eligible, applicants must be studying full-time (30 credits over two consecutive semesters). Students must meet all eligibility requirements for the academic year before beginning a course at Algoma University.
- The students must have a minimum A+ average or equivalent to the country, on their previous records.
- Must have good communication skills and be able to meet the English language requirements at admission.
English Language Prerequisites
- CAE’s overall score of 185
- Duolingo Test overall of 125
- IELTS score of 7.0
- Pearson test of 65
- TOEFL score of 560
International students attending Ontario middle schools who meet OSSD requirements must complete 90-100% of the U/M Grade 6-12 courses offered for admission.
This scholarship award can be extended for up to three additional years. Candidates must maintain an average of 80% per year without losing in previous fall/winter courses. Students are required to enroll and maintain 24 credits in two consecutive fall/winter semesters. If the student does not meet the standards in one year, there will be no scholarship and the student cannot continue the following year. International scholarship recipients who move into permanent residence will benefit from the extension for an additional four years. The transition will not affect the scholarship awards funds.
Transfer students who enter Algoma University during the winter semester of each academic year are eligible for half the scholarship (at least 15 credits).
$2,500 Presidents Awards
This scholarship for international students is non-renewable.
Scholarships worth $2,500: For international students receiving their first year at Algoma University who have completed their prior studies with a minimum of National Grade A (using the Algoma U grade scale).
To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled full-time (24 to 30 credits over two consecutive semesters). Courses of less than 30 credits but more than 24 credits are included. Students must meet all eligibility requirements for the academic year before beginning a course at Algoma University.
International students attending Ontario middle schools who meet OSSD requirements must complete 80-89.9% of U/M Grade 6-12 admissions courses.
$1,000 Dean’s Awards
The Dean’s Award is a scholarship worth $1,000 for international students entering Algoma University in their first year and completing previous coursework with a minimum nationally equivalent level of B+ (using the grading scale Algoma U).
To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled full-time (24 to 30 credits over two consecutive semesters). Courses of less than 30 credits but more than 24 credits are included. Students must meet all eligibility requirements for the academic year before beginning a course at Algoma University.
$500 Awards of Excellence
$500 scholarship worth entering Algoma University in its freshman year and completing a bachelor’s degree with a minimum national B average (using the Algoma U grading scale).
To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled full-time (24 to 30 credits over two consecutive semesters). Courses of less than 30 credits but more than 24 credits are included. Students must meet all eligibility requirements for the academic year before beginning a course at Algoma University.
Scholarship Application Deadline
The deadline to complete and submit the application is until September 16, 2022. Late application will not be considered. The scholarship will be offered annually for eligible international students.
