The Iimura Peace Endowed Scholarship is a $5,000 fall grant that honors an international student who is committed to promoting Asian peace. This scholarship is for international undergraduate students from Asia, with a preference for individuals who have lived or attended school in East Asia or in Asia.

About the Scholarship:
The University of Texas at Austin was established in 1883 as a public university. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 40,048 students (fall 2020), is located in an urban area, and covers 437 acres. The academic calendar is semester-based. The University of Texas at Austin is ranked #38 in National Universities in the Best Colleges 2022 edition. Tuition and costs for in-state students are $11,448; tuition and fees for out-of-state students are $40,032.
The University of Texas at Austin is one of the country’s largest universities. It is organized into 13 schools and colleges, with the College of Liberal Arts being the largest. Alumnus Shinichi Iimura was a civil engineering and computer science international student at UT. He received his diploma in 1977. Iimura, who is now the CEO of Koyo Engineering, a Japanese electrical contractor, is donating to UT in the form of an endowed scholarship named the Iimura Peace Endowed Scholarship. He thinks that the scholarship will not only benefit overseas students, but also foster peace in Asia.
Iimura is active in the Texas Exes Japan chapter and is passionate about expanding the Japanese alumni network. He feels that alumni should help present and future students to honor UT’s impact on them.
Finally, Iimura feels that increasing UT’s international student population is critical because international students will influence the world in a variety of ways.

Scholarship Offer:
- Candidates will be awarded a one-time scholarship of up to $5000 to cover (part of) their current year tuition charge.
Eligibility for Scholarship
- Applicants must be overseas students from Asian and East Asian nations.
- Applicants must be prepared to enroll in a University of Texas undergraduate program.
- Interested applicants must have a 2.0 undergraduate GPA and an excellent academic record.
- Prior to the grant being disbursed, the applicants must have completed two semesters.
- Applicants must have the following English proficiency exam results:
– TOEFL score of 79
– IELTS score of 6.5
- Have completed two semesters prior to the award’s payment.
- Involvement Essay (500-1500 words, double-spaced, typed) that addresses:
– What does it mean to you to promote peace in Asia? Give specific examples.
– Have you been a part of any organizations or programs that promote peace?
– Based on your experiences in the United States, how do you aim to foster peace in your community?
-Project of Service
- The scholarship recipient must agree to execute a service project within one year of receiving the award.
- Proposals for service initiatives must be presented for approval.
- Submitted service projects must promote community peace, whether in Austin or in your home country.
- A report, as well as a photo or video, must be supplied when the service project is done.
– Once the beneficiary has been selected, more information on the Service Projects will be provided.
