    Professor Ken Goldberg: [email protected]

This MMG Fellowship in memory of Dr. Melvin Morris Goldberg (BSE UPenn 1961 / PhD 1963) will give funding for a talented undergraduate student from any U.S. university to spend the summer conducting technical research under the supervision of faculty at an institution in Israel. Dr. Goldberg attended Ohio State University and the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate and graduate education (eg, Bar-Ilan, Ben-Gurion, Haifa U., Hebrew U., Technion, Tel-Aviv U., the Weizmann Institute).

The topics of the studies could be anything relevant to the STEM disciplines. Prospective applicants need to work with a faculty member at their home university to identify and confirm a suitable supervisor in Israel before submitting an application. The Goldberg Fellowship is open to any U.S. junior or senior who demonstrates the initiative, interest, and skill necessary to make such arrangements.

About the Scholarship Provider:

In the year 1749, Benjamin Franklin, who would go on to become a founding father of the United States of America, oversaw the formation of an organization of 24 trustees that would go on to build an institution of higher education. Children from privileged families as well as those from working-class families were welcomed into the Academy and Charity School in 1751 when it first opened its doors in the Province of Pennsylvania. In the years that followed, the University of Pennsylvania, also known as Penn University or Penn, was able to obtain a collegiate charter in the year 1755, graduate its first class in the year 1757, found the first medical school in the American colonies in the year 1765, and become the first American institution of higher education to be given the title of university in the year 1779. All of these accomplishments took place at Penn.

The University of Pennsylvania is a haven for intellectual brilliance and currently has a prominent position among the exclusive group of private universities that make up the Ivy League in the United States. The University of Pennsylvania, also known as the “Wonderful Old Lady of Learning,” is not only one of the most prestigious colleges in the world but also one of the most venerable educational establishments in the entire country of the United States of America (USA). When it comes to the ranking of the University of Pennsylvania, popular ranking organizations such as the Times Higher Education have placed the university at the 14th position in 2023; however, in the QS World University Rankings 2023, the university ranks at the #13rd position. This information can be found in the US News & World Report – National University Ranking.

The primary campus of the University of Pennsylvania may be found in University City, which is located in close proximity to West Philadelphia and is only separated from Center City Philadelphia by the Schuylkill River. The university is comprised of twelve schools, several of which offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are regarded as among the best in the world. The College of Arts and Sciences, the Wharton School of Business, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of Nursing are the four schools of the University of Pennsylvania that provide undergraduate degrees.

The graduate and professional programs are taught across 12 schools on one campus, in addition to the four schools mentioned above. These schools include the Annenberg School for Communication, the School of Dental Medicine, the Stuart Weitzman School of Design, the Graduate School of Education, the Penn Carey Law School, the Perelman School of Medicine, the School of Social Policy & Practice, and the School of Veterinary Medicine.

There are a total of 28,038 students that are registered to attend the University of Pennsylvania during the Fall 2021 admission season. This figure may be found when we discuss the student population at the university. This number includes 23,030 students enrolled full-time and 5,008 students enrolled part-time. A total of 10,106 students were accepted into the undergraduate programs, and 12,924 students were accepted into the post-graduate programs out of the 23,030 full-time students. In the Fall of 2021, the University of Pennsylvania had a combined total of 6,392 international students enrolled in courses of study at all levels. Please see: Application for Admission to the University of Pennsylvania

At the University of Pennsylvania, there are a total of 12 undergraduate College Houses in addition to Sansom Place as part of the institution’s housing setup. There are approximately 5,500 undergraduates that call the campus their home. The College Houses each include their own unique room types, amenities, and communities, which makes it simple to pick an option that meets your needs. Off-Campus Services can give listings of hotels, hostels, student homes, and bed and breakfasts in the neighborhood even if there is a very limited supply of short-term housing near campus that is available at a price that is reasonable.

Alumni of Penn include a number of CEOs, as well as those who have won Nobel Prizes and been awarded Guggenheim Fellowships.
