About the Scholarship Provider:
London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is among the world’s top institutions dedicated to the study of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. SOAS is the place to attend if you want to learn about the world from every possible perspective. Given the breadth and depth of our expertise in economics, politics, culture, security, religion, and society, we at SOAS have immense potential to contribute to the current dialogue on global concerns. In 1916, the south bank of London became home to the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). This is one of the best institutions in the world, and its faculty includes some of the most renowned experts in their fields. Every student here has the opportunity to study and become fluent in one of numerous languages that are not widely spoken in Europe. The University of London’s central London campus is home to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), where students are encouraged to question established norms in their academic pursuits. Students at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) have the opportunity to receive a fully global grasp of the social sciences, the humanities, and allied subjects from one of the world’s top academic institutions. Programs in anthropology, development, languages, finance, and law are just some of the many available at this university’s undergraduate and graduate levels.
Nearly 80% of all bachelor’s degrees awarded globally today require students to spend at least one year of their education studying in a country other than their own. Roughly one-quarter of all incoming freshmen at SOAS enroll in the school’s language programs and plan to spend their junior year studying abroad at one of SOAS’s many international partner universities. SOAS’s library is one of five that make up the United Kingdom’s renowned National Research Library. The library’s 1.5 million books, magazines, and other resources are written in 400 different languages. Our library’s collection of more than 1.3 million printed books is a major attraction for scholars from all over the world. We also have access to a wealth of archival materials, including rare books, manuscripts, and more. All students at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) have free access to the University of London Library at Senate House.
Your future success may depend on the school from which you graduate. If you opt to enroll at SOAS, you’ll have the freedom to choose your own timetable for classes. Joining an international university will put you in touch with people from over 135 different nations. As a consequence of these conversations, you’ll get new perspectives on the challenges we face as a global community and a renewed sense of urgency to effect change. SOAS is one of the largest universities in the world, with over 6,000 enrolled students. This number is five times larger than the total student population in the United Kingdom. Since going abroad to attend college might be a scary prospect for some students, SOAS does everything it can to ease their minds. A day is set aside each fall to specifically welcome international students, and assistance is accessible from the moment you set foot on campus. Students can get free, unbiased guidance on immigration and visas in addition to financial aid.
Students can also seek assistance from the Student Advice and Wellbeing office and the International Officer at the Students’ Union. All students from across the world are welcome at the International Students House. These community gatherings and events are open to students from all walks of life. Students who do not yet have the required level of English can enroll in pre-sessional English for Academic Purpose classes that run from four to twelve weeks before the start of term, or receive in-sessional English language aid. These classes are open to anyone who wishes to attend SOAS. The closest hotels to the campus of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) can be reached in two to forty-five minutes, making them accessible to both the university and nearby attractions. Students at SOAS have the option of living in one of the school’s safe residence halls or in a private or shared house. These resident halls and rooms in shared flats or houses offer a variety of room types to accommodate students with varying budgetary and space requirements, including twin, single, double, studio, and flat options. Self-catered, catered, or a combination of the two are all possible for room arrangements at SOAS. In addition, staying with host families is an option for students. Bloomsbury is a popular area of central London that is noted for its literary connections and its attractive public squares. The main campus of SOAS may be found in Bloomsbury, next to a square known as Russell Square.
