About the Scholarship:
The University of Maine (UMaine) was founded in 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln under the provisions of the Morrill Act. It was formerly known as Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts. The inaugural session, with 13 students, was held in 1868, and the institute was given its current name in 1897.
It maintains its 150-year reputation by providing high-quality conventional education at an affordable price. The University of Maine has several colleges and schools, including the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Engineering, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Honors College, the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture, the Maine Business School, and a graduate school. At the university, both graduate and undergraduate programs are available. Students can enroll in any of the university’s more than 100 degree programs. The University of Maine’s main campus is in Orono, Maine, and it spans 660 acres, featuring academic buildings, dining halls, 17 residence halls, two villages, exercise centers, and other amenities for students’ use. There are almost 200 organizations that students can join and meet others who share their values. Kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, and other adventure sports are available through the Campus Recreation Program. Along with Greek life groups, there are 17 fraternities and 8 sororities. The town of Orono is a relaxing yet exciting location to visit. Within the town, there are numerous cafes, pubs, and restaurants, as well as museums and churches, and public transit is provided. It boasts a total undergraduate enrollment of 9,465 students (fall 2020), a rural environment, and a campus area of 660 acres. The academic calendar is semester-based. The university now has 11,561 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled. It has a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1 and an average class size of 25 students. Students come from 70 nations and 50 states in the United States. The institution won more than $78 million in research awards in fiscal year 2019 and spent more than $137 million on research and development. UMaine awarded 69 Ph.D.s and 362 master’s degrees between 2018 and 2019. According to the National Science Foundation, it is one of the best public colleges for research.

Lawrence Bender (film producer), Biff Elliot (actor and sportscaster), Stephen King (author), Nick DiPaolo (comedian), and Brad Sullivan are just a few of the famous people who have attended the university (actor). Experts urge prospective students and their families to conduct their own study to assess a campus’s and surrounding area’s safety.
