Scholarship details
The goal of Bayes Business School, which is a global school, is to encourage a greater ethnic diversity in the business world. It is providing ten scholarships to undergraduate students of African descent who are domiciled in the United Kingdom and come from families with incomes that are lower than average. Each scholarship provides a yearly stipend of £6,000 in addition to covering the total cost of tuition (at the home-fee level) for a period of three years. Those who are awarded scholarships will further receive support and mentoring.
The grant that the Bayes Business School obtained from the Portal Trust (previously the Sir John Cass Foundation) in 2002 is being put to good use through the implementation of this program, which will be carried out over a period of ten years and will have an approximate cost of five million pounds. This program, which supports the School’s goal to increase participation in higher education, is aligned with the reparation principle that was laid out as one proposal in City, University of London’s Review of Historic Funding.
“We made a change to our name in 2021 so that it would better reflect our beliefs, but it was not enough; we need to take a lot of other steps as well.” The establishment of this scholarship fund is an essential component of our commitment. Because of these scholarships, bright young individuals who would not otherwise have the financial means to pursue an education at Bayes will have the opportunity to do so, allowing them to realize their full potential and eventually assume leadership roles in the business world. We are looking forward to welcoming our new scholarship holders into our thriving institution, where students come from over 150 different countries to study in the middle of the City of London. Andre Spicer is a professor at Bayes Business School and serves as the school’s dean.
