This scholarship is tailored for Ecuadorian women and workers in the mining industry.

Solaris Resources|WIM Ecuador|Torata Mining Resources

Scholarship Description

The Soy Minera scholarships are proposed as a result of the strategic alliance between WIM Ecuador and Solaris Resources to promote the participation of women in the mining industry and responsible mining and best practices in the industry with a gender focus.

This year in the Second Edition, Torata Mining Resources and our ally Solaris Resources join forces to support the financing of the program, committing one more year to also support with additional scholarships so that more students can participate in our program.

If you are a female university student who has chosen a career related to mining and you demonstrate your effort every day for the benefit of academia and industry, we reward your academic achievements by helping you finance your career or a complementary student training program.

In 2021, the Soy Minera Program awarded 5 scholarships to students from different careers in various provinces of Ecuador. Our Fellows are a benchmark at the national and regional levels.

WHY APPLY FOR A MINING SCHOLARSHIP?

In Ecuador, mining is a developing industry that is emerging as one of the economic engines of the country’s development and opens a competitive professional market in which women can find important opportunities.
In accordance with the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, seeking gender equality and promoting inclusion and diversity is one of the objectives to achieve sustainable development.
According to data from the Gender Survey carried out by WIM Ecuador and EITI, there are 16% of women currently working in mining in Ecuador.

THE “I AM A MINER” CHALLENGE

Solaris Resources was the first company with operations in Ecuador that collaborated to promote this scholarship program with WIM Ecuador, as a strategic challenge for the industry.
With this program, we seek to raise awareness about the importance of preparing women to be mining professionals and link other companies and industry players to participate as sponsors in the following chapters, accepting the challenge “I am a miner” sequentially. This year, Torta Mining Resources accepted the challenge and will support this scholarship together with Solaris.
