Scholarship Offer:
During their studies in Mauritius, the Scholarship will help successful students pay their tuition costs and contribute to their living expenses. Furthermore, airfare from the country of origin at the start of the studies and back to the country of origin at the completion of the studies will be covered, using the most cost-effective route. This will be valid for travel from the country of origin at the start of the studies and back to the country of origin after the studies have been completed successfully.
Eligibility for Scholarship
- Applicants for Mauritius Africa Scholarships must be over the age of 18 and not have reached their 26th birthday by the application deadline;
- For Master’s programs, applicants must not have reached the age of 35, and
- for PhD programs, applicants must not have reached the age of 45 by the application deadline.
- Applicants must have applied for full-time on-campus study at any public Tertiary Education Institution in Mauritius for the academic year beginning in 2022; 5. The scholarship will be awarded for a maximum of four (4) years or the minimum course duration, whichever is shorter.
Nationality
Candidates must be nationals of African Union member countries or African Commonwealth countries. This Scheme does not apply to Mauritian nationals or foreign nationals resident in Mauritius.
For Diploma And Undergraduate
Candidates must have: Either (i). A minimum of five (5) credits at School Certificate (S.C), or General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) ‘O’ Level or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), inclusive of a credit in English Language or acceptable evidence of proficiency in English Language ( as per para 1.3.3 below).
Or (ii). Five (5) ‘O’ Level passes awarded by any other approved examining body deemed to be equivalent to (i) above, inclusive of a pass in English Language or acceptable evidence of proficiency in English Language (as per para 1.3.3 below).
Or (iii) Qualification equivalent to (i) above. Note
(a) A pass in English at A-level will be acceptable in lieu of English Language at ‘O’ Level.
(b) A pass at subsidiary level and/or ‘A’ Level or equivalent will be acceptable in lieu of a pass at ‘O’ Level as per (i) and (ii) above.
(c) Some diploma programmes may have higher qualification requirements than (i) and (ii) and applications will be considered only for candidates meeting the minimum requirements of these programmes.
(d) Candidates already holding a diploma will not be considered
For Masters
Applicants should have successfully completed an undergraduate degree with: (i) at least an upper second class from a recognized higher education institution; OR (ii) a GPA / CPA greater than 60% from a recognized higher education institution; OR (iii)alternative qualifications acceptable to the Ministry. Note: a. Candidates should submit their detailed study plan of about 750 words along with their application b. Candidates already holding a Masters’ degree or its equivalent will not be considered. c. Course requirements and information on the specific Masters’ Programmes are available on the website of the Higher Education Institutions as follows: i. - Certified copy of biodata page of passport (if available)
- Certified copies of educational certificates
- Certified copies of transcripts
- Copy of letter of conditional offer by a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (if available at time of application) ORcopy of acknowledgement notice from a Mauritian public HEI that the application for a seat has been made and the appropriate application fee has been paid
- Medical certificate to be duly filled and signed by a registered Medical Practitioner in Section 6 of the Application Form. This should be appropriately stamped; and
- A detailed study plan
Scholarship Renewal
Scholarships will be renewed on an annual basis, provided that the preceding year of study was completed successfully and that the student was enrolled in the following year.
If the student is not promoted to the next academic year, the government of Mauritius will stop paying the scholarship. Scholarship payments shall be resumed only once documentation certifying that the awardee has cleared any academic backlogs and is enrolled in the following academic year, or if research progress is falling behind schedule.
Termination of scholarship
The scholarship may be terminated at any time due to poor behaviour, progress, or attendance, a violation of the HEI Rules and Regulations, or a violation of Mauritian laws.
