Open Society Fellowship calls for applications from eligible candidates. This foundation fellowship was established in 2008 to help people find innovative and unconventional approaches to the fundamental challenges of an open society.

The Open Society Foundations award grants, scholarships, and fellowships throughout the year to organizations and individuals who share Open Society values. Open Society Fellows produce outcomes of their choice, such as books, newspaper articles or scholarly articles, art projects, a series of meetings, and more.

About the Sponsor: Open Society Foundations

Open Society Foundations, formerly the Open Society Institute, is an international grant-making network founded by business magnate George Soros.

Open Society Foundations subsidize civil society groups around the world, with a stated aim of advancing justice, education, public health, and independent media.

The open society fellowship program will help to increase public understanding of these challenges and to encourage in-depth and in-depth discussions within the Open Society Foundations and around the world.

Cohorts of fellows can develop a common work product. The fellows will help the cohorts to reflect on possible outcomes if any.

Applicants to the Open Society Fellowship are invited to respond to the following proposal:

  • To tackle widespread economic inequality, new and radical forms of ownership, governance, entrepreneurship, and financialization are needed.
  • This proposal is intended as a provocation to encourage productive controversy and debate – and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Open Society Foundations.
  • Candidates are invited to object to, motivate, or commit to the proposal in their applications.
  • Although the proposal deals with economic issues, people without education in business or industry are welcome provided that they have a relevant project in mind.
