Ross University School of Medicine was originally located in Dominica, but in 2019 the main campus was moved to Barbados.
The establishment date for this medical university was in 1978 by the founder Robert Ross, which the university is named after.
The student body population is growing each year with a recent tally of over 15,000 students attending the in-person campus in Barbados. Also, Ross University has many medical school connections that work to build excellent connections with other areas, these sister universities are Dillard University, Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and Tuskegee University.
Eligibility
- This scholarship is only available to new first-semester students, also only new students will be considered for this medical scholarship that can cover anything from $30,000 to $80,000 for a student’s entire college career.
- Students that want to be automatically nominated for this scholarship upon becoming a new student at Ross University School of Medicine, need to have a minimum MCAT score of 486.
- Grade point average is also a contending part of this scholarship option, students must have an undergraduate grade point average score of 2.8 or higher. This is on a 4.0-grade point average grading scale.
- Students must be attending Ross University as full-time residents.
- Students must maintain continuous enrollment to be considered within the terms of the scholarship agreement.
- Students must be studying medicine to be entered into admissions, or wanting to pursue a medical degree.
- This scholarship is open to both international and domestic students that live in Barbados.
Requirements
Having excellent academic scores on exams and a high grade point average will be the determining factor for this scholarship award ability. A student’s grade from their MCAT and general grade point average will be combined as a total solid score. Whichever student has the highest scores will be award. And multiple students will be awarded this prestigious and highly generous funding reward.
If international students are interested in applying, they will need to show the equivalent exam scores or possibly may need to take the MCAT exam before applying for admissions. How to Apply
The only way to apply is to become a first semester student at Ross University School of Medicine. There is no other way to apply for this scholarship, and there is no extra form or admissions page to send in for the scholarship. This is purely awarded based on academic grades.
Reward – Extra Benefits
Students can be awarded anywhere from $30,000 to the top reward amount of $80,000. The $80,000 can only be successfully awarded if the student has a 4.0 grade point average and has high scores on their MCAT exam. Otherwise, the lower the score the lower the award amount.
Tuition does come to around $30,000 for one year based on tuition itself, health insurance, and administrative fees.
Accommodation is not paid for here because the university does not have a campus built for accommodation Instead, it is normal for students to live off campus when attending Ross University School of Medicine.
Deadline Time Line
There is an enrollment period in May 2023 that is considered the deadline time line for this scholarship. That means tuition must be paid if not, then the rest of the reward amount will go towards tuition fees.
