The Research Training Program (RTP) scheme is managed by individual universities on behalf of the Department of Education and Training. Every university has its individual application and choice process, interested applicants may contact your preferred university directly to deliberate on how to apply for the RTP scheme.
The RTP offers block grants, on a calendar year source, to HEPs or higher education providers their aim is to support both domestic and overseas students undertaking a Research Doctorate and Research Masters degrees, also known as the higher degrees by research or HDR.
Under the RTP, a chosen University will provide one or more of the following kinds of sustenance to an RTP recipient scholar:
- An RTP Fees Offset: will pay for the tuition fees of a higher degree by research student that would otherwise have been paid by the student. It also requires that a university to fully offset tuition fee applicable for a student.
- An RTP Stipend: to support students with their living costs while doing a higher degree by research.
- RTP Allowances: to support students with additional costs of a higher degree by research (HDR). This is consist of relocation costs, thesis printing and health cost, academic projects or publication cost. The health cost will also cover their dependents.

This scholarship is granted yearly and the deadline is from April to October.
