Scholarship details
The Beijing Municipal Government has established the Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) which aims at alleviate some of the costs incurred by international students who are studying or applying for a higher educational institutional in Beijing. Applicants have to meet a number of criteria as they submit relevant materials to the universities in Beijing they hope to enroll in.
Individuals applying for the scholarship must be non-Chinese citizens and present a clean bill of health. Depending on the degree they apply for, different restrictions apply. When applying for а PhD must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40. At the same time, applicants for the general scholar programme must own a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 50.
Individuals seeking to brush up their skills may also consider to apply as long-term language studies are also available. However, applicants should meet the language requirements of their respective institutions and must not have been awarded other scholarships at the same time.
More specifically, the programme bestows a number of benefits to applicants, including a doctoral student scholarship of up to RMB 40,000 per person a year. The master student scholarship is slightly less generous at RMB 30,000 per person a year. Senior scholarship comes with RMB 10,000 per person a year. Finally, long-term exchange students or credit transferrable students are awarded RMB 5,000 per person a year.
