Scholarship details
The Commonwealth Rutherford Fellowships are now open for researchers from the Commonwealth countries. Applicants may now apply at a selected universities in the United Kingdom in order to carry out their higher education institution conducting postdoctoral research.
These fellowships are funded by the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy known as BEIS and tap into funds provided by the Rutherford Fund. Overall 50 fellowships are available.
There is a list of criteria that need to be met for these scholarships to apply:
- All candidates must be highly motivated PhD graduates and have an innovative research topic as well as an original research
- They must be a citizen or granted a refugee status, in the very least, by one of the countries that come under the Commonwealth
- They must be able to start the fellowship in the United Kingdom prior to 31 March 2018.
- Have been awarded your PhD no more than ten years before 1 November 2017
A postdoctoral support is available for a period of either one or two years.
When applying, candidates will be asked to point one institution that they think may be appropriate to host their fellowship. They will also give reasons as to why the institution is apt.
