Scholarship details
The DAAD scholarships for master’s studies at the University for Peace – UPEACE aim to foster strong and internationally oriented higher education systems in Central America with the ability to contribute to sustainable development.
To this end, scholarships for master’s or doctoral studies related to development are awarded to individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Central America.
The DAAD will endeavor to transfer/pay you the first monthly payment as quickly as possible after your arrival / after the beginning of your scholarship. The processing of the first transfer of funds may take some time, especially if you can set up your bank account only after your arrival in the destination country.
In order to cover the expenses that arise until you receive the first payment of the scholarship, we recommend that you take an economic reserve with you.
Please note that the travel allowance for fellows within the region will only be transferred together with the first fellowship fee, i.e. after arrival in the host country.
The scholarship will be paid directly into the scholarship recipient’s bank account. Further details will be announced after admission to the scholarship program in the Award Letter.

TO ACHIEVE THESE LONG-TERM IMPACTS, THE FOLLOWING OUTCOMES HAVE BEEN FORMED AS THE PROGRAM
OBJECTIVES Program Objective 1: Graduates are qualified to take
up positions in or for their home region
Program Objective 2: Participation of women is strengthened and disadvantaged groups
Program objective 3: Organizational, financial, and personal capacities of
associated institutions are strengthened.
As part of the In-Region Scholarship Program, the DAAD offers scholarships for Master’s studies.
The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and targets top university staff, without neglecting the public sector’s demand for academically trained staff.
The target group for the scholarships is graduates with a first academic degree (Bachelor or Licentiate) if applying for a Master’s program, in a country other than their home country. In-Region Scholarships are intended for students who wish to participate in a study program in a country in their home region.
ABOUT THE AGENCIES INVOLVED
It has been agreed that the DAAD will cooperate with the University for Peace by offering scholarships for admission in 2022.
The granting of scholarships will be subject to the provision of funds and the signing of the Affiliation Agreement between the DAAD and the University for the Peace.
DURATION
The duration of the master’s program is generally 18 months and usually starts in August 2022
Please note that the maximum duration of the scholarship is based on the time remaining for the fellow to have reached the regular period of studies in that program; that is, if you apply for a DAAD scholarship from the second year of studies of a three-year program, the maximum duration of the scholarship will be two years.

What benefits do the DAAD Scholarships offer for master’s studies at the University for Peace – UPEACE?
1. Tuition Fees * USD 8,500 annually the amount regularly charged. * Please note that in some cases not all fees and costs that are mentioned in the official fee structure of the host institution may be covered by the DAAD in full, e.g. if the agreement with the funding organization prevents us from funding certain elements of the fee structure or if items that are included in the fees are supposed to be covered through individual scholarship benefits.
2. Annual research allowance EUR 460 (Master)
3. Thesis printing allowance once towards the end of scholarship EUR 400 (Master)
4. Monthly Grant (accommodation, food, etc.)
5. Travel expenses (Only in the region) twice (start/end of the scholarship) The flat-rate travel allowance must be specified in the award letter
6. Annual Insurance (Only in the region). The insurance will be paid directly to the CCSS

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS. THE SHORT-TERM RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP INCLUDES:
A monthly scholarship payment for living costs
Health/accident/personal liability insurance
A flat-rate travel allowance
