Florida International University is an American metropolitan public research university in Greater Miami, Florida, United States. To honor the memory of José Antonio Echeverría, President of the University Students Federation they established a scholarship called “The Jose Antonio Echeverria Scholarship”  this scholarship aims to promote the understanding of political, social, and economic realities of Cuba during 1950’s, and also to recognize the legacy and life of José Antonio Echeverría.

This scholarship is being awarded every year to a students in the field of Architecture, History, Politics & International Relations, or Religious Studies at the University.

This year “The Jose Antonio Echeverria Scholarship”  will award two scholarships of $4,000 each covering the  tuition fee, books, and other educational expenses.

To be eligible for this scholarship the student must be enrolled at Florida International University as an undergraduate student with a declared major in Architecture, History, Politics and International Relations or a Religious Studies taking this field at least 12 credit .

Must be actively enrolled in the undergraduate Certificate in Cuban and Cuban American studies, must continue taking at least one program course.

The supporting documents for applications are:

  • unofficial transcripts demonstrating a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at FIU, or, if newly enrolled at FIU, at other institutions attended.
  • original, well-researched, and properly documented 3-page essay must be double spaced, 12-point font, in English or Spanish, demonstrating knowledge of the life and beliefs of José Antonio Echeverría and his contributions and efforts toward democracy in Cuba.

All students supporting documents and application must be sent to cri-at-fiu.edu.The deadline for submission for this scholarship will be by Monday, September 25, 2017, by 11:59 pm CUBA TIME.
