The Fulbright Program was established by the United States Congress in 1946 through a law sponsored by Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State, and administered by its Embassies and Fulbright Commissions around the world.
It offers participants, selected for their academic merits and their potential as leaders, the opportunity to study, teach and carry out research, exchange ideas, and contribute to the search for solutions to common concerns in the international arena.

Fulbright Honduran Graduate Scholarships are awarded for up to two years of study toward a master’s or doctoral degree at a United States university.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship exchange program sponsored by the Government of the United States of America, designed to foster mutual understanding between the United States and the nations of the world.
It offers participants, selected for their academic merits and their potential as leaders, the opportunity to study, teach and carry out research, exchange ideas, and contribute to the search for solutions to common concerns in the international arena.

The policies and guidelines of the program and the final selection of scholarship recipients are the responsibility of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, appointed by the President of the United States.
MAIN REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL PROVISIONS FOR ALL FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS
- Citizen or nationalized Honduran, residing in Honduras.
- Outstanding academic performance.
- University degree (bachelor’s degree or engineering, at least).
- Fluency in English (minimum level varies for each program).
- The degree you want to obtain must be related to your current professional field.
- Admission to a US university is not required to apply to the program. If you are selected for the scholarship, you will be assisted in the placement process at an American university.
- Submit an essay about your Study/Research Plan – motivation to study in the United States, objectives and goals of your studies, what your studies will contribute to, etc.
- Submit a Personal Statement – academic background, professional experience, leadership ability.
- Upon completion of his studies, he agrees to return and reside in Honduras for a minimum of two years.
- The process of application, evaluation, selection of candidates, and beginning of studies for the selected candidates last approximately 16 months.
- If your interest in a Master’s Degree is in the field of business administration, business, finance, economics (or related to these fields), it is preferable that you apply through the Fulbright Program – Banco Atlántida.
- Preference is given to those who have not had study experience in the United States.
- Applications for studies in the areas of health sciences are not considered if the program involves direct contact with patients.
- Applications for studies in religion will not be considered if the primary objective is pastoral or missionary.
- Former Fulbright scholars, US citizens, or residents are not eligible.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FULBRIGHT GRADUATE PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS:
Minimum academic index of 80% or GPA of 3.0.
Fluency in English – minimum score of 80 on the Internet-Based TOEFL (submit TOEFL result – Test of English as a Foreign Language).
Preferable to present GRE results for studies in all fields, except Law. For studies in business administration, it is preferable to present the result of the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test).
A minimum of 2 years of work experience in Honduras.
What benefits do the Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships offer for Hondurans?
1. The scholarship covers tuition costs that are not covered by the scholarship awarded by the American university.
2. One-time stipend for initial setup costs.
3. Monthly support stipend for the scholarship recipient (established by the Fulbright Program).
4. Cost of medical insurance, if the university does not accept coverage provided by the Fulbright Program.
5. Payment of other costs/taxes related to the scholarship that is not covered by the academic institution that provides the scholarship.
6. Round trip air ticket.
