Scholarship details
The official Flagship Scholars Commitment Program works with out-of-state students (students from other states in the U.S.) to find a spot at the University of Maine.
Since the University of Maine’s establishment in 1865, it’s not hard to see that the university has seen many years of academic succession and invention. Located in Orono, Maine there is a natural beauty attached to the institution that students won’t be able to find anywhere else in the United States.
The University of Maine has received one of the highest honors which is the regional award of the highest doctoral research university.
Around 11,600 students are enrolled and on campus as students throughout the academic year. This student population growth is expected to climb in the next few years. The university is not registered as an ivy league institution but the academics are registered and taught as such.
The University of Maine is in the National Science Foundation’s top 100 public universities where 86% of the college research funding was given by the government to ensure students had enough resources.
The University of Maine has many courses available and with this scholarship not having a preference for certain subject fields, that means any subject field is applicable.

There are many more programs available that students will need to look for to see which one would be the best subject field for them to study and pursue at the university.
Eligibility
- Students must provide their GPA and priority students will have the highest GPA to send in.
- Academic status is important and any bit of information will need to be sent in.
- SAT and ACT will need to be provided for each student.
Requirements
Students will need to have a 2.5. grade point average or higher. Preferably higher since the highest priority students will have the highest grade point average and the best overall chance of receiving this scholarship option.
How to Apply
The only way to apply is by applying online. There will be an open scholarship portal however, some students prefer to receive a downloadable version of the scholarship. So students can use the contact information that’s in the contact section to receive a scholarship via email.
Reward – Extra Benefits
Students are eligible to either have full tuition coverage as well as potentially having $16,200 to cover some expenses.
The scholarship amount is decided by the time admissions rolls around. This is so students can have the scholarship and it can cover the tuition costs right away.
The payment will come in two installment periods which will be deposited to the student’s college bank account.
Deadline Time Line
December 1, 2022 is the deadline date. While it’s stated for 2023 it will be for the 2023 academic year. The open submissions window is open from now until the deadline date given.
There is no mention of delay, cancellation, or gap years with this scholarship. However, it is preferred that the student has none of the mentioned when it comes to following the rules and guidelines of this scholarship option. If a student does not follow the guidelines they can be disqualified.
Open Submission Window Time Frame
The open submission window is currently open and available for students to send in their applications to.
Students should follow the deadline date and the academic calendar of the University of Maine to see if anything changes. There is no mention of cancelling of delaying a submissions window. Although this is not guaranteed, students can always contact the university to see if anything can effect the deadline time frame.
Annual or Renewable Scholarship Options
This is an annual scholarship and this can be renewed. Students will need to meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress. This states the the student was following all of the rules and actually progressed while under the scholarship.
The scholarship can be renewed every 8 semesters in total. Students cannot exceed this 8 semester total, or within a 5 year presence of being awarded.
