To strengthen common understanding and friendship between the Chinese and international individuals and advance China’s trade and cooperation with different countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for outstanding students and scholars to pursue advanced education or lead research in Chinese universities. Hohai University is one of the international universities in China that offers Chinese Government Scholarships.
About the Scholarship
The CSC scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship given by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to international students who wish to study in China. The program is designed to fund the study of outstanding international students in China that are straightforwardly selected and suggested by designated Chinese universities. The various supporting student categories are subject to the requirements of the participating universities for the scholarship such as Hohai University.
For the academic year of 2023-2024, eligible international students are encouraged to apply for the scholarship to help them further their higher education in a Master’s degree program or Ph.D. degree in China. The scholarship aims to help build the skills and develop their knowledge in their chosen fields to prepare for their personal and professional goals.
The program accords with the cooperation and trade agreements or consensus arrived at by the Chinese government and the governments and institutions of different nations. It is available to undergraduates, postgraduates, and general and senior scholars. A candidate shall document an application with the dispatching branch of their countries of origin.

About the University
Hohai Civil Engineering School was established in 1915 and converged with the Department of Engineering of Southeast University into the Hohai School of Engineering in 1924 and later consolidated with the Fourth Zhongshan University in 1927 and turned into the Department of Water Resources, Focal University in 1928. With the establishment of the Individual Republic of China in 1949, it turned into the Department of Water Resources, Nanjing University. In 1985 it resumed the first name Hohai once more and was named Hoahi University and the late pioneer, Mr. Deng Xiaoping, inscribed this name.

Scholarship Eligibility
Before proceeding with the application, the students must meet the basic eligibility criteria of the scholarship.
- Must be international students who are in good shape, and healthy mentally and physically.
- Must be holding a bachelor’s degree to be admitted to the university.
- Must demonstrate their academic excellence
- The applicants must be under the age of 35 when applying for a master’s degree at the university at the time of the application.
- The applicants must be under the age of 40 when applying for a Ph.D. degree at the university at the time of the application.
- The applicants must be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) younger than 50 while applying for a senior scholar program;
- The applicants must be passed the HSK (Level 3) for the application for the Chinese-taught senior scholar program
- The applicants must be passed the HSK (Level 4) for the application for the Chinese-taught postgraduate program.
- Must meet the admission requirement of Hohai University such as academic requirements, language requirements, and other requirements.
- International students must have good communication skills in oral and written English.
Application Process
- The application can be made in an online portal provided by the university.
- The applicants must complete the admission required documents
- The CSC will sort out designated universities and experts concerned look at applicants’ qualifications and academic execution before concluding the short-list of candidates;
- The CSC will advise the admission results to the application office which will subsequently have the candidate informed.
- The application portal of Hohai University requires the candidate’s personal information and accounts to register to begin their application for the scholarship program.
- The application must be completed before the deadline for submission.

- Complete the application form for the Chinese Government Scholarships
- Scanned copy of applicant’s passport information pages, A candidate shall submit a clear scanned duplicate of the information page of his/her passport that won’t lapse at the latest March 1, 2023.

- A research or study plan is written in either English or Chinese language
- Two recommendation letter
- Certificate of non-criminal records or police clearance issued by the local public security in the applicant’s home country.
Selection Process
The professors from various colleges will look at the web-based applications and submit the suggested name list. The International School will organize the enlistment and report to the university board where the final result is made.

Application Deadline
The deadline to complete and submit the application is until April 30, 2023. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
