The Hurford Youth Fellowship Program aims to develop and cultivate leadership abilities and unlock thier potential in all aspects. The fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for these passionate individuals to spend a meaningful three-month period at the World Movement’s Secretariat.
The Hurford Youth Fellowship offers fellows the opportunity to establish global connections, exchange experiences with activists from diverse democratic movements, and contribute actively to the progress of the World Movement for Democracy. Fellows participate in strategic meetings, conduct research, and lead discussions, presentations, and information-sharing sessions on crucial democracy-related subjects. By engaging in these impactful activities, fellows play a pivotal role in shaping democratic discourse, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change worldwide.
Roles of the Hurford Youth Fellow
As a youth fellow for the program, you will be engaging in the following activities which include the following:
- Conducting research on a democracy-related topic
- Developing online resources such as publications and training materials
- Facilitating online discussions
- Contributing to the World Movement’s social media posts
- Participating in the planning and implementation of World Movement activities
- Attending relevant events and discussions in Washington, D.C., to enhance your understanding of key issues and build relationships
- Identifying, compiling, presenting, and creatively sharing discussion materials and results
The activities will help the successful fellows to be connected with their fellow activists, develop their leadership skills, broaden their knowledge, and be experts in the fields.
The fellows will be given an opportunity to showcase their work through formal presentations. These presentations, which can be open to the public or tailored for a specific audience, primarily revolve around the fellow’s project topic. It provides a platform for fellows to share their findings, insights, and recommendations with others.
Upon successfully completing the fellowship at NED (National Endowment for Democracy), fellows take on the role of regional or country focal points. They will become engaged actively in the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network, assuming a leadership position in facilitating youth initiatives within the World Movement for Democracy.

Eligibility

- Keep in mind that the fellowship is not a scholarship opportunity, they will not provide any assistance or scholarship awards for the universities.
- No Financial Support for Training, Conferences, or Internships: The program does not provide financial aid for professional training programs, conference attendance, or internships at other organizations.

Fellowship Support and Benefits
- Monthly Stipend: Each fellow will receive a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.
