Korea Advantage Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is one of the leading universities in South Korea founded by the Government of South KOREA in 1971. The university aims to provide a standard education that will give more access to students’ career goals and plans.
Annually, the university offers a scholarship in different higher education degrees and programs to help lessen the financial barriers that become a common hindrance to continuing their higher education. Eligibility
To begin your application at KAIST University, international students must be able to meet the eligibility requirements below:
- Masters Degree applicants must be holding a bachelor’s degree.
- Ph.D. degree applicants must be holding a bachelor’s and master’s degree at the beginning of the enrollment period.
- International students must have a good academic record.
- Dual Citizen international students will not be accepted for the scholarship application.
- Good communication skills.
- The bachelor’s degree is required to be equivalent to the Korean bachelor’s degree that takes four years to be cleared.

-Bachelor’s degree with honor
-Students can provide supplementary documents that will prove the equivalency of the degree.
Nationality
The students who are holding dual citizenship will not be eligible to apply for the scholarship. The international students must meet the following nationality requirements of the university:
- The international students must have/her diploma and certificates outside South Korea. Students who are enrolled in an international school or university in Korea or currently graduated in an international school located in Korea will not be accepted.
- Must be able to commence their higher degree at KAIST as a freshman.
Application Process
The international students must be able to follow the application process of the scholarship. All incomplete applications will be declined by the scholarship committee and will not be able to consider.
- International students must visit the online application website provided by the university, the application must be completed according to the instruction of the website.
- If you have full up all the information on the application portal, it is good to check all the information and save all the files needed.
- Application fee payments, an 80$ fee for the scholarship application is required and students must make sure to check all the necessary information, and fees won’t be refunded if there’s an error on the applications.
- Application forms are required to be printed and numbers should be kept.
- Submit all the necessary documents or files to support your applications.

– The personal statements can be filled at the application form’s statement of purpose, the statement of purpose will outline your motivations, previous university/institute, Academic achievements, Study plans, and future plans.
– Work-related experience or any academic experience that will be related to your chosen field of study and must consist of 5,000 bytes. - Financial Statements
- Two Recommendation Letters
-The recommendation letter will be automatically sent to the students once the application payment is done, each referrer will receive an automated email with instructions on how to continue the online process with their letter of recommendation. The complete procedure for submitting a letter of recommendation can be found in the instructions in the online application system.
-The recommendation letter can be from the past advisor or professor and KAIST will be accepting recommendation letters from the previous work company in case the students have already worked in related to their study program. - Copy of official Degree Diploma or Certificates

Important Note on Application
- All documents submitted to the university will not be returned.
- The application fee cannot be refunded by the university.
- Certifications of the documents can be done by obtaining a stamp from the issuing institution or by visiting the notary’s office.
- Photocopied documents will not be accepted
- All documents must be in English or Korean. If it is in another language, it must be translated by an institution or notary.
- All supporting documents must be sent directly to the admission office.
- Admissions officers reserve the right to request documentation from applicants to better verify the authenticity of the documents.
- Admitted students CANNOT defer their registration to the next semester. Students wishing to delay enrollment must re-apply.
- Admitted students who are not selected for the KAIST Scholarship without sponsorship from the government or any organization receive a certificate of admission with designated financial sources as an independent.
- Forged documents will be disqualified.
Scholarship Deadline
- August to September- Spring Semester
- December to January- Early Fall Semester
- March- April: Regular Fall Semester
All documents must be submitted before May 27, 2022, recommendation letter can be submitted by May 30, 2022.
The scholarship will be offered annually by the KAIST University.
Scholarship Awards
KAIST University will give a fully-funded scholarship to deserving international students which include the following benefits:
- Full tuition fee for 4 semesters for the Master’s degree students
- Full tuition fee coverage for up to 8 semesters for the Ph.D. students.
- Living expenses amount to up to 289$ per month for the Master’s degree students.
- Living expenses amount to $330 for the Ph.D. students.
- Health Insurance
- The additional stipend amount for the research
The awardees must maintain their GPA of 2.0 to maintain the scholarship awards.
