The Center for African Education and the Mastercard Foundation is engaged in a ten-year partnership to help 108 master’s degree students from Sub-Saharan African nations who are academically talented and focused on transformative change on the continent. The Program selects broadly across Sub-Saharan Africa and encourages applications, particularly from ladies, individuals with disabilities, and people who are evacuees or displaced.
About the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
The University of California, Berkeley in partnership with The Mastercard Foundation is a collaborative, global organization of educational institutions and non-profit organizations that accept education as a catalyst for social and monetary advancement. The Scholars Program aims to foster a partner of ethical, entrepreneurial, and lively youthful leaders who will drive and lead financial transformation in Africa. The Scholars Program is a growing responsibility, and, to date, the Program has committed more than $1.2 billion to support the education and leadership improvement of in excess of 40,000 youths.
The fate of Africa will be shaped by its young generations, including those talented, yet economically disadvantaged students who face significant barriers to achieving quality education. The Mastercard Foundation’s strategy, Youthful Africa Works, aims to enable 30 million students, particularly young ladies, to get noble and fulfilling work by 2030. In addition to receiving a top-notch education, Scholars will get specialized training in leadership and business venture and participate in programs connecting them to the innovative biological systems of the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley.
Collaboration with African colleges is an important aspect of the Scholarship Program. They anticipate working with at least three different African partners throughout the scholarships to create chances to share Berkeley’s center capabilities of innovation, business, and research with partner institutions in the Scholars Program organization.
Mastercard Foundation
The Mastercard Foundation is directed by its mission to advance learning and financial inclusion for individuals who are living in poverty. Scholarship Eligibility
- Must be a resident of a Sub-Saharan African country: This includes Africans who are outcasts or displaced within the African continent. This scholarship is not intended for residents of North African nations. Those with dual citizenship, asylee, displaced person, or permanent occupant status in the US, Canada, UK, or EU are not qualified.
- Have good academic achievements: All candidates should initially be admitted to a UC Berkeley master’s degree program to be considered for the Scholarship. The important criterion for Admission at Berkeley is the applicants must be able to demonstrate their academic achievements.
- Can demonstrate their leadership potential: The Program looks for those focused on developing the abilities and knowledge associated with transformative leadership which can engage other individuals in an ethical manner to adopt positive and sustainable changes.
- Must be from a socio-economically disadvantaged background: The Scholarship is intended for those incredibly talented individuals who could not otherwise have access to advance and quality education.
- Having demonstrated the obligation to reward your local area, nation, or continent: The scholarship is looking for balanced students who are engaged in activities. Some may be active in communities and other university or country activities that may help in the contribution of knowledge to the students or in their local community.
- The intentions to go back to their home country after their studies: The students who are engaged with and passionate about issues affecting their networks, and who will take advantage of their education at UC Berkeley to all the more likely to outfit themselves with the information and training to help their own country and willing to return back to their home country after their studies to benefit the development of the Sub-Saharan countries.
