International students who have achieved a high level of academic success and are planning to attend Montclair State University as first-year students are eligible for merit-based Presidential Scholarships. The competition for Presidential Scholarships is extremely fierce. Individual amounts vary and are awarded based on your high school achievement, which may include, but is not limited to, your unweighted high school GPA, class rank, standardized exams (if submitted), and your international residency status. These factors are taken into consideration when determining your scholarship.
When we receive your application to the university, we will immediately consider you for a Presidential Scholarship if you are eligible. There is no need to submit a separate application. You will be notified about any scholarships that you may be eligible for together with the admissions offer that is offered to you.
About the Scholarship:
When it first opened its doors in 1908, Montclair State University was known as the New Jersey State Normal School at Montclair. In its early days, it provided courses lasting for a full academic year. It was the first institute in New Jersey to grant master’s degrees, the first to broadcast educational television programs, and the first to offer a four-year program in pedagogy in the entire United States of America. The College of the Arts, the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, the Feliciano School of Business, the School of Nursing, and The Graduate School are the seven different academic divisions that are housed within the Montclair State University campus
The institution is well-known for its excellence in the fields of education as well as business and the arts. The College of Arts offers courses in a diverse array of subject areas, ranging from television production to illustration. Within the John J. Cali School of Music and the School of Communication and Media, which are both specialized schools, the College of Arts is home to both of these institutions. Since the year 2002, the renowned string quartet known as the Shanghai Quartet has been performing regularly at the music school.
Yogi Berra, a catcher for the New York Yankees who graduated from Montclair State and is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame, inspired the naming of the university’s baseball stadium after him. Notable alumni such as the actor Bruce Willis, the guitarist for My Chemical Romance, Ray Toro, and the writer for The Simpsons, Michael Price, are further examples. The Montclair State University campus is well-known for its commitment to environmental sustainability. Upper Montclair, a neighborhood in New Jersey that is home to a number of parks, reserves, and public gardens, serves as the organization’s headquarters. According to the rankings provided by U.S. News & World Report for the academic year 2022, Montclair State University was ranked No. 179 among all national universities, No. 19 among Top Performers on Social Mobility, and No. 88 among Top Public Schools.
The University’s education program, which was ranked second in New Jersey and 103rd in the nation, its Master’s in Public Health program, which was ranked second in New Jersey and 135th in the country, and its Master’s in Business Administration program, which was ranked second in New Jersey and 135th in the country, were all ranked among the best in the country by the U.S. News & World Report 2022 Best Graduate Schools (fourth in New Jersey and 185 in the nation). The online Master of Arts in Educational Leadership program offered by Montclair State University was ranked first in the state of New Jersey and twenty-fifth in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for their list of the best online programs for the year 2020. The Feliciano School of Business was recognized by The Princeton Review as one of “The Best Business Schools” in its upcoming edition of “The Best Business Schools,” which will be released in 2020. In the 2019 NJBIZ Reader Rankings, the MBA and Accounting programs offered by the Feliciano School of Business were both ranked in the top three out of a total of 25 educational institutions located in the state of New Jersey.
The 2019 edition of The Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges placed Montclair State University in its rankings of the most environmentally conscious universities in the United States. In 2020, Montclair State University was recognized by Money magazine as one of the “Best Colleges for Your Money” in the United States. The University was also given the position of No. 16 on Money’s list of the “Most Transformative Colleges” for the year 2020. The 2020 Campus Pride Index is a national database of LGBTQ-friendly schools and universities. Campus Pride has recognized Montclair State University as a “Premier Campus” in this index. One of just two schools in the state of New Jersey to receive the highest possible rating, Montclair State University was awarded five stars out of a possible five.

Eligibility for Scholarship.
- In order for the applicants to be considered, they are required to fulfill all of the following and stated criteria:
- All applicants must be new students who will start their studies in the fall.
- On a scale from 0.0 to 4.0, the applicants’ high school grade point average (unweighted) must be at least 3.0.
