The Entrepreneurship in Africa (EWEA) initiative is currently accepting applications for its mentorship, and capacity-building workshop series from women-led small to medium enterprises (WSMEs) as well as community enablers and entrepreneurship support organizations across Africa.
The AFAWA (Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa) Initiative, Seedstars, and GrowthAfrica have come together to create the Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Africa (EWEA) program. In order to combat gender inequality and promote inclusive economic empowerment for African women, the Project’s primary goal is to be completed. To be more specific, the Project’s goals are to expand access to mentorship, finance, and visibility for Women-Led Small and Medium Enterprises (WSMES), as well as to increase the capacity and sustainability of enablers supporting Women-Led Small and Medium Enterprises (WSMEs).
About the Scholarship Sponsor:
Seedstars was established in 2012 by Pierre-Alain, Michael, and Adrien, three Swiss business owners who met through their shared interest in starting businesses from scratch and entrepreneurship. After some time had passed, Alisée de Tonnac became a member of the team, and the two of them went on to launch the largest pitching competition together. Their goal was to find the most promising early-stage high-growth ventures in order to construct the largest entrepreneurial community possible in emerging and frontier markets. Later on, Benjamin Benaim was brought onto the team to help drive forward the operations of Seedstars that are related to company building.
Seedstars is an organization with its headquarters in Switzerland that aims to improve people’s lives in emerging countries through the application of technology and entrepreneurialism, with a specific concentration on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Seedstars is a company that works inside ecosystems to connect various stakeholders, establish enterprises from the ground up with the help of public and private partners, and invest in high-growth ventures. The mission of Seedstars is to encourage impact investing as well as impact entrepreneurship all around the world. By participating in a variety of activities, which may include venture scouting, the organization of events, the formation of companies, and the participation in entrepreneurial education programs.

Eligibility for Scholarship
- Located in one of the nations listed above
- Improving the economic health of Western Small and Medium-Sized Businesses,
- Providing new ways to ecosystem support that are meant to narrow the gap in funding for women- and minority-owned small and medium enterprises
- Introducing novel approaches to the process of providing capacity enhancement for WSMEs,
- Providing WSMEs with a digital presence and increasing their visibility, as well as improving their access to mentorship opportunities.

Application Procedure
- SMEs that fall into the following categories are encouraged to submit an application: Between the Seed and Growth Stages Based in any of the countries listed above
- Include at least one woman on the team that is creating the company.
- Include some sort of digital component in their goods (example: Mobile application, Online Shop, SAAS product, etc.)
Application Deadline
The application deadline for Seedstars’s Enhancing Women Entrepreneurship in Africa (EWEA) Program is December 31, 2022
