Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic success. Students from both Canada and other countries can apply for available scholarships.  Financial Aid and Awards will provide you with written notification if you are selected to receive a scholarship.  It is possible that payment of funds will not take place until the middle of the term of application because of the huge volume of applications that are received each term.  We strongly recommend that you plan properly.

About the Scholarship Provider:

Simon Fraser Institution, which was founded in 1965 on the beautiful west coast of British Columbia, is recognized as the most community-engaged research institution in Canada and has three vibrant urban campuses. SFU has maintained a position among the most prestigious comprehensive universities in Canada and was a pioneer in the development of an open and inclusive approach to higher education. This strategy fosters learning, discovery, community engagement, and global connectivity. Across its eight faculties—Applied Sciences; Arts and Social Sciences; Business; Communication, Art and Technology; Education; Environment; Health Sciences; and Science—SFU provides students with access to a comprehensive selection of academic programs. In addition, Simon Fraser University provides its students with a wide variety of opportunities to gain hands-on experience through programs such as work-integrated learning, overseas field schools and exchanges, and the forward-thinking Semester in Dialogue, which focuses on social and civic problems.

More than 36 academic buildings, the Trottier Observatory, and the Compute Canada facility, which houses Cedar, one of Canada’s supercomputing and data centers, are now part of the original campus, which was constructed by the renowned Canadian architects Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey.

The Harbour Centre campus of Simon Fraser University was established in 1989 in the middle of Vancouver’s central business area. There are currently seven buildings on the campus, some of which include the Charles Chang Innovation Centre, the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, and the Segal Graduate School of Business. 2019 saw the opening of a brand new building on the Surrey campus, which was designed by the renowned architect Bing Thom. This facility is home to the Sustainable Energy Engineering department.

The university would like to recognise in a respectful manner that it is located on Traditional Coast Salish Lands. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which is the largest college sports association in the world, has accepted Simon Fraser University as its first Canadian member.

Eligibility for Scholarship.

  • In order to submit an application for a scholarship, you must:
  • having successfully completed a minimum of 12 units worth of normal graded coursework at SFU.
  • be enrolled in at least 12 units of standard graded courses at SFU during the term in which the application is being submitted.
  • have a cumulative grade point average at SFU Challenge of at least 3.50, audit and credit-free courses do not count toward this requirement.
  • Due to the fact that a Co-op term only consists of three units, it cannot count toward the required number of units because it is not a conventional graded course.
  • If a student with a disability satisfies all of the other criteria for eligibility and is enrolled in a minimum of six or more units of regular graded courses, then the student is qualified to submit an application for a scholarship. At the time of application, the student is required to submit a letter to indicate that they are registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) at Simon Fraser University.
  • A student who has already been granted admission to SFU is automatically considered for all additional university-administered scholarship opportunities.
  • A student who has been awarded a scholarship to attend SFU on the condition that they enter the university on scholarship status is ineligible for any other scholarship offered by the university until the entrance scholarship has been fully paid out. This guideline applies to any term in which a scholarship for entering the university is put on hold.
  • There is a certain amount of financial assistance that is reserved solely for students from indigenous communities. It is possible to allude to the “First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples of Canada” while using the phrase “Indigenous peoples of Canada” to contextualize the term “indigenous.”
