In the area of research collaboration on global partnerships for sustainable development, the GPN Visiting Professorship has been established at the University of Kassel for individuals who are qualified to come from any of the GPN partner universities or other universities that are affiliated to the GPN. It is designed for exceptionally talented researchers working in places of higher education and research who have attained a level of professional recognition commensurate with their contributions to their respective disciplines and who have attained positions of senior researcher.
Wangari Maathai is to be honoured as the name donor on the one hand, and at the same time she stands symbolically for her devotion to justice, environmental, and human rights because our professorship programme is named after her.
About the Scholarship Provider:
Public education is provided by the University of Kassel, which can be found in Kassel, Germany. 1971 was the year that it began operations. It has received two academy awards, sometimes known as Oscars, in addition to three nominations, all of which were won by former students. The ratio of students to teaching staff is 12 to 1. Around 25,000 students call the university home, including more than 3,400 students from other countries, making it one of the most culturally diverse institutions of higher education in Germany.

Research is conducted in a variety of topics, including but not limited to: educational research, including research at universities; national and worldwide social policy; nanostructure and molecular sciences; and technical system simulation for industrial system technology. The primary library facility gives patrons access to roughly 1.9 million books and periodicals, including 30,000 that are currently in print. A number of the university’s other campuses each have their own specialised library that is kept up to date.
The university is home to a number of interdisciplinary research centres and institutes, some of which are the Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology, the Centre for Career and Higher Education Research, the Centre for Environmental Systems Research, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Nanostructure Science and Technology, also known as CINSAT. Alumni of the university include Gunther Cramer, an entrepreneur who was one of the co-founders of the solar energy company SMA Technologie; filmmaker Thomas Stellmach, who won an Academy Award; filmmaker Klaus Stern; and photographer Horst Wackerbarth.
SeNSS is one of only 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships in the United Kingdom that is sponsored by the ESRC, and they will be offering a handful of fully-funded ESRC doctoral studentships beginning in September 2023. Scholarship Offer:
- The professorship provides both cash remuneration in the form of a salary as well as round-trip travel (at the rate of the least expensive direct commercial fare) for the period of the stay in Kassel.
The Gustafsson & Skrondal Visiting Scholarship is administered by the University of Oslo’s Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO). As part of the visiting scholar program, CEMO and the University of Oslo host a number of young researchers from Norway and elsewhere each year.
Eligibility for Scholarship.
- In the field of research collaboration on global partnerships for sustainable development, the GPN Visiting Professorship has been established at the University of Kassel for qualified candidates who are citizens of DAC-List countries (https://www.oecd.org/dac/financing-sustainable-development/development-financestandards/daclist.htm). These candidates come from all GPN partner universities and related universities. It is designed for exceptionally talented researchers working in places of higher education and research who have attained a level of professional recognition commensurate with their contributions to their respective disciplines and who have attained positions of senior researcher.
- The GPN Visiting Professorship will be given out for periods ranging from one month to six months at a time between the months of October 2020 and September 2024.
- The following are the parameters of the professorship:
- Annually, from the 1st of October until the 30th of March
- Every year, beginning on April 1st and ending on September 30th

If a student enrolls in one of the degree programs offered by SOAS University of London, they may be eligible to receive a fee waiver award in the amount of £5,000. This award is available to students who are interested in receiving a degree from SOAS University of London.
Application Procedure
- By the 15th of July in 2023, the application must have been received.
- The tenure for this professorship will be from April 1, 2024, through September 30, 2024, and from July 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024.
