The Weeks Scholarship is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards that may be won by students attending the University of Miami. This prize is given to graduating high school seniors who have distinguished themselves both academically and extracurricular.  Each and every entering first-year student for the fall semester is immediately considered for merit-based scholarships.

Conditions & Terms of Service

To be eligible for the Weeks Scholarship, an undergraduate student must finish a full-time program of study that includes a minimum of 12 credit hours during each of the fall and spring semesters, for a total of at least 24 credit hours over the course of the academic year. At the University of Miami, students are required to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 throughout the academic year. The GPA will be computed for the first time at the conclusion of the second semester of enrollment. The award may be subject to modification in the event that the recipient is awarded a grant, scholarship, or housing assistance or prepaid tuition assistance that was not expected at the time the award was issued.

 

About the Scholarship Provider:

The University of Miami is a prestigious private research institution that may be found in the city of Coral Gables in the state of Florida. It was established in 1925 as a diverse academic institution with a strong emphasis on learning, teaching, and research. Accreditation to confer baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees was bestowed upon it by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It received a ranking of 57th place out of all national universities in the 2019 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” published by U.S. News & World Report. The primary campus of the University of Miami may be found in the city of Coral Gables, and it extends across an area of 239 acres. The majority of the university’s academic programs may be found on the primary campus, which has a total of seven schools and two colleges on its grounds. 

Additionally situated nearby is the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre, which serves as a venue for student productions of plays and musicals. The University of Miami Libraries (UML) rank among the top fifty research libraries in North America and attract scholars from all over the world as a result of its significant print collection of more than 4 million volumes and 100,000 serial subscriptions, rare and unique special collections, state-of-the-art digitization and preservation facilities, and a staff of experienced professionals. The University of Miami is comprised of three separate campuses that operate independently from one another. The principal campus of Miami University is located in Coral Gables, which is characterized by its expansiveness across a suburban landscape. In addition to other things, it offers courses in music, chemistry, indoor baseball, and more than sixty computer laboratories in a residential college. Additionally, it has libraries, schools and colleges, and staff buildings. 

The second site is the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, which is located within the complex that includes both the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Medical Center. The University of Miami provides students with the opportunity to choose from among 180 different undergraduate majors and minors, in addition to more than 100 different master’s degree programs, 67 different doctoral degree programs, and a specialist degree program. It encompasses a wide range of academic fields and is comprised of a total of 12 schools and colleges. The departments with the highest student enrollment were Arts and Science, the Miami Herbert School of Business, Engineering, and Nursing and Health Studies. The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science may be found on the Marine campus on Virginia Key in Biscayne Bay, which is situated on a waterfront. The campus is part of the University of Miami.

 

There are 132 bachelor’s degree programs, 148 master’s degree programs, and 67 doctorate degree programs available at this institution. Of the 67 doctorate degree programs, 63 are focused on research and scholarship, while the remaining four are focused on professional fields of study. The university received a total of 38,893 applications for undergraduate admissions during the fall semester of 2019. It had roughly 17,811 students enrolled in a total of 12 distinct schools and institutes as of the year 2018. Over the course of its history, the university’s student body has been comprised of individuals from around 50 different states and over 120 different countries. It currently has 3,226 faculty members, of which 98 percent possess doctorate degrees in their respective specialties. 

Because it has more than 16,000 full-time and part-time employees and faculty members, the school has been recognized as one of the top 10 employers in Miami-Dade County. The alumni network of the University of Miami contains a number of well-known persons who have made substantial contributions in their respective disciplines. These individuals all attended the University of Miami. There are athletes from the National Football League and big League Baseball, as well as actors and entertainers, among them. Other members of this group include political officials, scientists, and CEOs of big organizations. The Alumni Association of the institution is committed to fostering learning that continues throughout one’s life.

 

SeNSS is one of only 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships in the United Kingdom that is sponsored by the ESRC, and they will be offering a handful of fully-funded ESRC doctoral studentships beginning in September 2023.   • The University of Michigan provides Weeks Scholars with a full tuition waiver for the four years of their undergraduate education. 

 

The Gustafsson & Skrondal Visiting Scholarship is administered by the University of Oslo’s Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO). As part of the visiting scholar program, CEMO and the University of Oslo host a number of young researchers from Norway and elsewhere each year.

 

Eligibility for Scholarship.

  • When applicants for Early Decision I and Early Action apply for early admission to the University of Michigan and complete all of their First-Year Admission Requirements by November 1, they are immediately considered for admission to the university. 
  • Entrants must either be citizens of the United States or permanent residents of the United States.
  • Candidates who have been chosen for the Weeks Scholarship are given the opportunity to write an essay in order to be considered as finalists.
  • The Selection Committee is going to read all of the essays that have been submitted, and then they are going to choose the finalists who they think should win the Weeks Scholarship.
  • The awardees will be sent an invitation to take part in the scholarship program that will take place at the University of Miami at the beginning of March. During this session, candidates will have the opportunity to speak with UM faculty as well as existing researchers in order to have a better understanding of our interest-driven educational approach.

If a student enrolls in one of the degree programs offered by SOAS University of London, they may be eligible to receive a fee waiver award in the amount of £5,000. This award is available to students who are interested in receiving a degree from SOAS University of London.

 

Application Procedure

  • Are you interested, and do you qualify? To submit your application to the University of Miami, please visit www.commonapp.org.
  • Finish your application and send it in using the Common Application. You will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $70 after submitting your information. It is imperative that you use the same email address throughout the entirety of the application process, including the phase in which you register for standardized examinations.
  • You will be required to submit an extra essay that is 250 words long if you are applying for either the Spring or Fall of 2024.
