The Higher Education Scholarship Test (HEST), proudly entering its 4th season in 2025, is India’s largest national-level scholarship test for higher education. Powered by WeMakeScholars, an initiative supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the Digital India campaign, HEST aims to support financially needy students in pursuing their study abroad dreams.
A Proven Track Record of Success
In its 2024 edition, HEST saw an overwhelming response, with over 10,000 students registering to compete for scholarships. Building on this success, HEST 2025 offers an impressive scholarship fund of INR 2 Crores, with individual scholarships of up to INR 3 Lakhs.
The exact scholarship amounts will depend on the quality and quantity of applications received this season, ensuring that deserving students receive the support they need.
Eligibility Criteria for HEST 2025
To ensure fair access to scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- Timeline: Applicants must plan to study abroad within the next 12 months.
- Proof of Admission: University admission confirmation is not required at the time of application but must be provided before receiving the scholarship cash award.
- Academic Requirements: Applicants must have a minimum of 55% marks in 10th and 12th grades.
- Program Eligibility: Scholarships are available for students pursuing Bachelor, Master, MBA, or Diploma programs. However, MBBS, MD, and PhD programs are not eligible.
- Financial Need: Applicants who are self-funding their total expenses are not eligible, as the scholarship prioritizes students requiring financial aid.
- Education Loan Requirement: HEST supports students in funding their total study expenses (tuition, living, and travel) through an education loan processed via WeMakeScholars.
Important Notes
- To ensure fairness, WeMakeScholars has introduced a mandatory condition: only students with education loans processed through WeMakeScholars are eligible for HEST 2025. This measure was taken after detecting fraudulent loan sanction letters in previous seasons.
- Education loans provide a strong backup for students, as only 2–5% of applicants typically receive full scholarships.
