The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) launches a scholarship portal for applications for a premium postdoctoral research fellowship in the MTA research network and Hungarian universities between September 1, 2023, and August 31, 2024, in the fellowships premium international postdoctoral research institute MTA from Hungary.

Worth of Hungary MTA Premium International Postdoctoral Research Scholarships
Admitted postdoctoral researchers will receive a monthly gross salary of HUF 600,000 for a period of 36 months from 1st September 2023 with an employment contract with the host research institution, or the MTA Office for Research Groups Attached to Universities and Other Institutions.

Eligibility criteria:
To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:
Researchers can conduct their research during the funding period from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024 at the host institutions. MTA-supported research groups and Lendület “momentary” groups cannot be host institutions.
The fellowship is open to both Hungarian citizens and citizens of other countries. Researchers submitting the application must meet the following requirements:
– Aged under 40 as of 1st September 2023 (born after 31 August 1978);
– Experience in conducting research that will be proven by listing publications, citations, grants, etc.
– Possesses a doctoral degree or DLA obtained from a recognized national or foreign university.
Applicants at the time of application must have the doctoral certificate or official certificate to verify possession of a doctorate.
– According to the provisions of the legislation, the start date of the first postdoctoral job must be 5 years from the date of obtaining the doctoral degree. The basic rules for postdoctoral employment are included in Government Decree 156/1997. (IX. 19.).
Applicants in the case of previous postdoctoral employment must provide evidence of this fact by submitting the application.
Researchers raising young children will be granted an age limit extension of 2 years per child, a maximum of 4 years, either as an extension to the standard age limit or as an extension to the start date of the first postdoctoral employment where prior to the submission of the application, the investigator has received a child care benefit based on Law LXXXIV of 1998 on Family Support or has received pecuniary medical insurance benefits for child care purposes pursuant to Law LXXXIII of 1997 on Mandatory Health Insurance Benefits.
Applicants must submit evidence of their eligibility for the age limit extension in their application documentation.
English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are generally required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the highest level required by the University.
How can I apply for the Hungary MTA Premium International Postdoctoral Research Scholarships?
Applications must be submitted in Hungarian and English regardless of the field of research. In case of legal disputes, the Hungarian application will be considered legally authorized. Applications can be submitted in English only if the postdoc is not a citizen of Hungary and their first language is not Hungarian. In such a case, the application in English will serve as the legally binding document.

The Host Institution Statement and Applicant Statement bearing original signatures must be posted or delivered (in one copy) to the MTA Secretariat Grants Management Department.
(Attachment templates – Host Institution Statement, Applicant Statement – can be downloaded from the MTA website or from the Download Option on the application website. After completion, they must be signed and uploaded to Attachments on the website of the application in PDF format.) It is sufficient to send the declarations in Hungarian.
Applicants whose native language is not Hungarian must submit declarations in English.
1. Host Institution Statement – The statement must be uploaded to the website with an original signature. . In case of applications to the MTA research network, the statement of acceptance of the research project signed by the director of the host institution (general director of the research center, director of the independent research institute) must be completed, signed and uploaded. ).
In the case of university applications, the declaration must be signed by the leader or leaders authorized by the regulations of the respective university. 3. Budget plan in the annual breakdown, including justification of expenses – signed copy to upload to the website; 4. Professional CV of the applicant;
2. Research plan and detailed work plan in an annual breakdown in approximately 15,000 characters (including spaces, notes, and bibliography) – to be uploaded to the website with the applicant’s signature;
5. List of publications and citations numbered and in the categorical breakdown, provided that the applicant has not uploaded their data in the MTMT database (mainly in the case of foreign researchers or who have worked abroad to date, it is advised to researchers from Hungary using the MTMT database) ;
6. Scanned copy of the applicant’s scientific title (Ph.D. and DLA) or the official certificate to verify possession of the doctorate;
7. Statement of the applicant – to be uploaded to the website with an original signature;
8. Applicants in case of previous postdoctoral employment should upload the document as proof of this fact in “Other documents” in Attachments and record this fact in the subject field “Other data in connection with the application” under “Application Data”.
9. Additional information considered necessary for the application (optional part of the application: upload, for example, the copy of the birth certificates of the children to qualify for age allowance, the copy of the documents that demonstrate the license of maternity, the copy of the documents proving that they are single parents – enough in the original language, no translation required).
