Scholarship details
Mainland Chinese student-journalists are entitled to the scholarships granted by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) under the management of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in cooperation with the JMSC Journalist Grant Scheme of China.
The scholarships supply financial assistance to fully or partially back their expenses while pursuing their studies in the Master of Journalism (MJ) program. An initial fund was provided to the China Media Project and MJ Programme income shall fund the said Scheme.
To be able to get qualified for the program, the applicant must satisfy the following criteria:
• s/he is a local resident in any province/region of Mainland China
• s/he must have both satisfactory performance in the news industry and overall performance in all of his/her subjects at school*
• s/he has an undying passion towards journalism and wants to pursue any profession in the journalism field.
*financial needs of the student may also be considered
Each qualified candidate shall be awarded a maximum value of the Scholarship that can be a full or a part of total tuition fee while taking Masters in Journalism within the school year when the grant is effective:
(i) Full Scholarship worth HK$130,000 or around $16,660 USD.
(ii) Half Scholarship worth HK$65,000 or around $8,330 USD.
(iii) Partial Scholarship worth HK$30,000 or around $3,840 USD.
