About George J. Mitchell
George John Mitchell Jr. (born August 20, 1933) is an American lawyer, businessman, author, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, Mitchell served as a United States Senator from 1980 to 1995 and as Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995.
He briefly served as a United States District Judge on the United States District Court for the District of Maine from 1979 to 1980.

Mitchell Scholarship Eligibility
Candidates must complete a number of key criteria to apply for this scholarship. The first is that the applicant must be between the ages of 18 and 29.
Second, candidates must earn a bachelor’s degree before beginning their studies under the Mitchell Scholarship Program.
Also, only US citizens can apply for this scholarship. Married students may apply for a scholarship, but will not receive additional funds to cover their spouse’s travel or living expenses.
How to Apply for the Mitchell Scholarship
The application process for this award begins soon enough. The application cycle begins in April and ends on September 30. However, students must obtain confirmation from their home university and the recognition period is usually before this deadline.
Candidates selected as semi-finalists will be invited for a Skype interview. These interviews will take place at the end of October. A finalist weekend will take place in mid-November.

To complete an application, students need a set of documents to support their application. Students must provide proof of US citizenship, their current grade point average, information about their honors, awards, and community service activities, as well as contact information for the endorser of their home institution.
Additionally, students can choose three programs at three different institutions. In addition, candidates need contact information for four different people they know well and who are willing to serve as official recommendations for the candidate.
In addition to the above material, students must submit a photo similar to the one taken for passports. A personal statement is required and cannot exceed 1,000 words. This allows the candidate to share her passion and interests with the committee.
Finally, candidates must combine all transcripts into one downloadable PDF document. Transcripts may not be official but must include all graduate and undergraduate courses attempted.
During the examination of the applications, the selection committee looks for different criteria. First, successful students have proven leadership skills. Also, selected students tend to work for public service and public service on a permanent basis.

Mitchell Scholarship Deadline
