About New Century Scholarships
The New Century Scholarship is a scholarship program specifically for students of the University of Utah in the United States. What’s unique about this program is that it’s not like your typical scholarship.
The application process is pretty rigorous, so it’s important to take your time and follow all the steps correctly. You don’t want to miss anything and risk being disqualified from this prestigious award!
The New Century Scholarship has been around since 1991 and has proven to be a genuine program that’s still going strong today. Every year, New Century University offers scholarships to qualified University of Utah students who meet certain criteria, and they’re always looking to recognize deserving students.
The program was created in 1999 by the Governor as a way to encourage students to accelerate their education by earning an associate’s degree in high school. It’s definitely a scholarship for high achievers, as students are expected to show a certain level of academic performance before even thinking about applying.
In 2006, they added an option for students seeking a degree in science, engineering, or math-related fields to complete a specific math and science-related curriculum. This was to ensure that the students were truly ready for the challenges ahead.
It’s worth noting that students majoring in liberal arts aren’t required to complete science-related courses. This curriculum is specifically designed for science, engineering, and related majors.
Field / Level of study
New Century Scholarship did not specify any listed field or level of study.
Host nationality
The New Century Scholarship bears all the trademarks of a scholarship program in the United States of America.
Eligible Nationality
The New Century Scholarship is available exclusively to applicants who meet certain nationality requirements. To be eligible, individuals must be present in the United States of America and meet the criteria for a college education at an accredited four-year institution.
Students who are already enrolled in such an institution may also apply for the scholarship, regardless of their field, provided that they are not currently in high school. However, graduating high school students may still be eligible to apply if they intend to enroll in the university the following year.
Applicants must be either United States citizens or non-citizens who are eligible for federal student aid. However, being a citizen of the United States alone is not sufficient; scholarship providers require that applicants be US citizens without any criminal record.
As such, United States citizens with a criminal record are ineligible to apply for this scholarship and are strongly advised against doing so, as applicants are thoroughly screened.
What is the value of the New Century Scholarship?
The New Century Scholarship 2024 comes with a fixed dollar amount, and winners can expect to receive up to $1,250 per semester – that’s a decent chunk of change!
This scholarship is renewable for approximately 60 credits or four semesters or until the completion of a bachelor’s degree (whichever comes first). In other words, it’s a two-year award, so make sure to make the most of it while you can!
To keep things fair, the award amounts are announced every April for the next academic year on the scholarship’s official website. It’s worth noting that the scholarship amounts are subject to legislative funding and the total number of qualified participants. So, if there are more participants, the scholarship amounts may be reduced or vary from year to year, depending on when the recipient attends college.
In summary, while the New Century Scholarship may not fund your entire college education, it can still be a tremendous help in covering some of the expenses. Plus, it’s renewable for two years, which means you can keep receiving those sweet, sweet funds as long as you meet the eligibility criteria and keep up your academic performance.
