It is the dream of most students to study abroad, but not everyone can afford to go beyond  the shores of Africa. While some can afford to study outside Africa, they still prefer to study within Africa for varying reasons best known to them. However, studying in Africa is a great idea as we all know Africa to be a culturally-rich continent. Even at that some still don’t know the steps to take to study in any country in Africa.

Here are some tips on how to study in an African country:

  1. Research the universities and programs: Africa has many top-ranked universities that offer a variety of programs. Start by researching which universities and programs align with your academic and career goals.
  2. Consider the cost: The cost of tuition and living expenses can vary significantly among different African countries. Consider your budget and look for scholarships or financial aid opportunities to help offset the costs.
  3. Learn about the culture and customs: Africa is a diverse continent with many different cultures and customs. It’s important to learn about and respect the culture of the country you will be studying in.
  4. Get a visa: You will likely need a student visa to study in an African country. Start the visa application process as early as possible to ensure that you have everything you need in time for the start of your studies.
  5. Make a plan for housing: Decide whether you want to live on campus or off campus. Research your options and make a plan for your housing before you arrive in the country.
  6. Plan for your safety: Research the safety of the area you will be studying in and take necessary precautions to ensure your safety. This may include enrolling in a safety program or purchasing insurance.
  7. Consider your language skills: Many African countries have official languages that are different from English, so consider your language skills and whether you will need to study the local language before you arrive.

These guidelines should help you on securing admission in any school within Africa. However, the fact that it’s Africa doesn’t mean the education is affordable for everyone. Here is a scholarship you may consider applying to help you cut cost on your studies.
